Pregnancy Safe Sunscreens

Full Spectrum Pregnancy Safe Sunscreens

One of the hardest to find products in pregnancy safe skincare is sunscreen. Today I’m sharing the results of an exhaustive search for pregnancy safe sunscreens. All of these sunscreens are physical sunscreens, with Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Dioxide. Learn more about full spectrum UV coverage here, pregnancy safe facial sunscreens are here.

Note, I have not tried all of these products. Once I started finding products that were full spectrum and pregnancy safe, I decided I would just list every product that I found! I know this list will be helpful to many of my readers. If you have tried any of these products, let me know how you liked it in the comments below. There’s also a list of pregnancy safe facial sunscreens.

Read this before commenting to ask about your product

If you would like to ask if something is pregnancy safe please provide the product name, an ingredient list and limit yourself to a 2 products. I have readers asking about 20 products sometimes, and as much as I want to help, I simply don’t have enough hours in the day to check so many products. When you comment, please search the comments for your product first (command F will let you search for the name with most browsers) in the comments, I have already answered safety for hundreds of products.

Don’t forget to check out the other articles in my Pregnancy and Nursing Skin Care Guide! Please only ask about sunscreens on this post, you can check other product types on these other posts. I have been getting makeup questions here for the products that are already in these posts. I will no longer answer questions about products on the wrong product type post, it spreads the information out and is a waste of everyone’s time.

Hi! Thanks a lot for this article! I was wondering why did you leave out from the pregancy safe sunscreens the one from La Roche Antihelios mineral sunscreen? I see you mention it in another article (8 Full Spectrum Facial Sunscreens) but not on the safe pregancy ones. Is there an ingredient unsafe for pregnancy in it

    Thanks in advance

Typically they have the active ingredients in a separate area (as they’re considered over the counter drugs) you want to see only zinc and titanium listed there. This list is more complicated as it isn’t separated out (which is actually against the FDA’s labelling guideline), and a more atypical chemical name was used, in this case it was the Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate.

First off, your blog is amazing and all the tips on pregnancy safe products are truly incredible – thank you for helping so many women!

I’ve been looking into Reef Safe Sunscreen (yay Hawaii!) and while they look super awesome either natural ingredients, many have a lot of essential oils which I love but know can be questionable during pregnancy.

The 2 Maui brands I’m looking at have Shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, jojoba, vitamin E, zinc, carrot seed oil, almond oil. Then one has lavender, peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils. The other has raspberry seed oil, rosehip seed oil, frankincense, elemi, germanium, Jasmine, sandalwood, myrrh, and ylang ylang.

Are either safe with the essential oils? Thanks so much!

They should be ok! Note all of the pregnancy safe sunscreens here are also reef safe 🙂 I’m planning to do a post about it.

The Neutrogena is fine. You can definitely try any body sunscreen on the face, it’s up to your own skin if it will tolerate it or not. Usually they aren’t formulated very differently, I use body sunscreen on my face (I have rosacea) all the time! I also have this list of pregnancy safe sunscreens for the face.
