Pregnancy Safe Products from Babo Botanicals

Pregnancy safe beauty products can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products. The list has gotten so large that I’ve decided to start listing brands in their own individual posts.

Here you’ll find pregnancy safe products from Babo Botanicals as of 7/22/2021. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. If they release a new product that is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.

How to Request a Product Review

I try to review all of the products that I can when I publish a list. Note, I am in the US and I only have access to US products. Please don’t be rude if I skipped your favorite cleanser, when items are out of stock sometimes they aren’t on the brand’s site, or maybe you are in Asia and I am in the US.

I reserve the comments on each post for reviews of product from that brand, this makes it easier for others to find products later. Please only ask about Babo Botanicals on this post, I will delete other product questions. You can find other brands here. If your brand is not included, please ask on the brand list post.

Which hair products do you need to worry about?

Technically, none. Most OBs will tell you not to worry about any hair products. Your hair is a dead protein, and it can not absorb anything. It’s amazing how pregnancy brain can take over and we forget that simple fact!

Personally, I screened products that would sit on my scalp for a few minutes (aka- shampoos, scrubs, etc). My thought process was that those products would be similar to a face wash, even if washed off right away it sits there for a bit. So, on this list you’ll find products that sit on your scalp. This is shampoo, scalp treatments and root styling products. Other styling products should just be on the hair shaft, and if you’re worried about sprays being inhaled, I recommend holding your breath while you spray and then step away a few feet. Conditioner and treatment masques don’t usually touch your scalp, though I have screened a few masques that people sometimes apply up to their roots. If you apply any of these further from the scalp, they’re all safe (even if I screened them as not safe).

Hello! Seeing contradicting information on meadow sweet and breast feeding, because it is technically a derivative of salicylic acid. Wondering about the moisturizing baby lotion.

It isn’t considered a high enough amount to worry about in pregnancy or nursing.

I have been using the Babo botanicals fragrance free daily Hyde lotion periodically through my pregnancy when my skin is extra dry. It’s what I’ve been using recently for my kids as well. I know you reviewed it as safe while pregnant but I wanted to see what your stance is on the natural extracts/essential oils in these kind of natural/clean products. A lot of what I read online says to steer clear of most essential oils and herbs because there are no test studies on pregnant women. Things like Kudzu root extract (listed ingredient) have no Data research on them. I just don’t want to trade one bad thing for possibly another. Thank you for your time!

I think it’s fine, as do all of the OBs I’ve talked to about the extracts/oils. I wouldn’t go and take a bath in a straight extract, but that causes issues for anyone. There’s some discussion in here: skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy

Ok for nursing but not pregnancy due to salicylate. Note the sunscreen ingredients aren’t included here, but that won’t change the safety.

Hi, i am pregnant but having a hard time figuring out what would be safe to put on my child, meaning..
is it safe to apply a sunscreen that you did not list on her body and then wash my hands? every brand i would normally use on my kid seems to be unsafe – but is it ok for it to get on my hands?

      Christine said:

Just wash your hands afterwards. Soaps are sometimes formulated to leave some “active” ingredients behind, so I would make sure the soap is safe.

Hello, had a question on possible misrepresentation of Babo Botanicals sunscreen products, listed twice:

Not Safe for Pregnancy, Ok for Nursing
    • Clear Zinc Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 – Fragrance Free (at The Detox Market): Salicylate

Not Safe for Pregnancy or Nursing
    • Clear Zinc Sunscreen Stick SPF 30 – Fragrance Free: Hemp

I don’t see hemp nor Salicylate for that sunscreen – are you sure of the exact product name and containing these harmful ingredients?

    Thanks!

    • 7.25.21
      Christine said:

The salicylate (Butyloctyl Salicylate) is ingredient #6 in the lotion. In the Stick the Hemp is the Cannabis Sativa seed oil. I very purposefully link directly to the product I’m discussing as sometimes brands and retailers will use different names for the same product. Both of those are accurate.
