Pregnancy safe skincare can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products. The list has gotten so large that I’ve decided to start listing brands in their own individual posts.
Here you’ll find pregnancy safe skincare products from Coola as of 3/4/2020. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. If they release a new product that is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.
How to Request a Product Review
I try to review all of the products that I can when I publish a list. Note, I am in the US and I only have access to US products. Please don’t be rude if I skipped your favorite cleanser, when items are out of stock sometimes they aren’t on the brand’s site, or maybe you are in Asia and I am in the US.
I reserve the comments on each post for reviews of product from that brand, this makes it easier for others to find products later. Please only ask about Coola on this post, I will delete other product questions. You can find other brands here. If your brand is not included, please ask on the brand list post.

Not Safe for Pregnancy or Nursing

Hello! I noticed you have the Mineral Sun Silk Crème under “not safe”; however, I don’t see an ingredient called out specifically. Are you able to please advise?
Thanks!
It just got pasted into the wrong spot (hence, no ingredient called out). When I work on these posts they’re in html form and sometimes it’s chaotic looking! It’s safe for pregnancy
Perfect; thanks so much for the reply! And for all of the useful info throughout your site. 🙂
Hi Doctor,
I was thinking about purchasing the Coola Mineral Sun Silk Creme SPF 30. It is included in your picture collage (which usually corresponds to products that you list as pregnancy-safe), but it is listed under the “not safe for pregnancy, ok for nursing” category. Will you please clarify if it is safe for pregnancy?
Thank you!
Alex
It was just pasted into the wrong area (hence no ingredient called out) it’s safe for pregnancy
Got it – thank you so much! 🙂
Hi. I read online that Zinc Ozide and Titanium Dioxide are safe during pregnancy which are the active ingredients in Mineral Body Sunscreen SPF 50. And it is not on your Pregnancy Safe List.
There are salicylates in the rest of the formulation which also need to be avoided during pregnancy. The Mineral Body Sunscreen is on the ok for nursing but not pregnancy list, I specifically call out each “problem” ingredient.
Hi Dr.,
Great site and super helpful!
I’ve been on the hunt for a pregnancy-safe SPF lip balm (as we probably end up eating a good amount of it). You don’t list this one so it may be new, or simply unsafe.
Anything funky in here? THANK YOU!

OMG YOU FOUND A PREGNANCY SAFE SPF LIPBALM!! This is like a holy grail. YEAH!!! I don’t think I’ve found one yet with SPF! And I agree, we likely eat a ton of lip balm.
I couldn’t find the Mineral Sport Sunscreen Stick. They may have reformulated it or discontinued it. I did find a sport tinted stick instead. Is that one pregnancy and breastfeeding safe? I’m trying to find a safe sun stick.

Thanks!
I see that when you first posted this list, the Coola Mineral Sun Silk Crème was pregnancy safe, but now it’s updated as NOT safe because of stem cells. So it’s officially considered not safe now? Thanks for these lists btw, they are Lifesavers!
They very recently updated the formula, it didn’t have stem cells before. I *just* updated these lists so this is very current.
You have the COOLA Rōsilliance™ Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30 listed as NOT SAFE. However, I do not see Stem Cells listed in the ingredients. Did they update their ingredients or is it listed as something else but its still stem cells?
-Titanium Dioxide 5.6%: Provides physical sun protection.
Aluminum Hydroxide, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Carthamus Tinctorius (ORGANIC Safflower) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (ORGANIC Orange) Fruit Water, Cocoglycerides, Commiphora Myrrha Leaf Cell Extract, Cucumber Sativus (ORGANIC Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Euterpe Oleracea Pulp Oil (ORGANIC), Flavor, Glycerin ORGANIC, Helianthus Annuus (ORGANIC Sunflower) Seed Extract, Helianthus Annuus (ORGANIC Sunflower) Seed Oil, Hydrogen Dimethicone, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein / PVP Crosspolymer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Iron Oxides, Octyldodecyl Oleate, Oryza Sativa (ORGANIC Rice) Bran Oil, Plankton Extract, Propanediol, Rosa Alba Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Centifolia Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Damascena Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Gallica Leaf Cell Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (ORGANIC Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Sodium Citrate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Water, Xanthan Gum.
It’s confusing because the way in which brands label stem cells is not consistent. Some times it is cells and sometimes it’s just actual just of a stem or something.
For this product it is these ingredients: Rosa Alba Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Centifolia Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Damascena Leaf Cell Extract, Rosa Gallica Leaf Cell Extract
I look at what the brand is advertising for the product, and if it is confusing I email/call them. Sephora doesn’t say it on their site, but when you look at Coola’s site: https://coola.com/products/mineral-face-spf-30-rosilliance-tinted-organic-sunscreen-lotion#
Scroll down and you’ll see this under all start ingredients:
BOUQUET OF ROSE STEM CELLS
• Revive Commiphora and Rose from Damas gives skin it’s bounce back. • Purify Apothecary’s Rose promotes health and nutrition of skin cells. • Smooth Lightening White Rose provides protection against daily environmental aggressions. • HydraGeneration Pale Rose hydrates the skin.
Thank you for the quick response! I just really want to find a great tinted BB cream with SPF for the summer. I was hoping this would be a good option so that’s a bummer. Can you recommend something from Sephora that would be safe for pregnancy that is similar to this product?
I recommend this one from BareMinerals 🙂

HI! Thank you so much for providing this incredible research!!
I just bought Mineral Body Organic Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 b/c it was listed on many sites as being pregnancy safe, but you have it here listed as unsafe because of the Butyloctyl Salicylate. My confusion is that it’s listed as an inactive ingredient, just like, for example, in Babo Botanicals Clear Zinc Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30, which you have as one of your safe sunscreens. Could you explain the difference?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
COOLA

Active Ingredients:
Zinc Oxide 16.0%
Inactive Ingredients:
Arachidyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Behenyl Alcohol, Bisabolol*, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract*, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Cellulose Gum, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract*, Citric Acid, Coco-Glucoside, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Methyl Dihydroabietate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Nasturtium Officinale Flower/Leaf Extract*, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract*, Sodium Gluconate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Spiraea Ulmaria Flower Extract*, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter*, Tocopherol, Water (Aqua).

The active vs inactive ingredient term is misleading as that’s a term the FDA uses to differentiate ingredients that are treated as a drug. Ingredients that fall under “inactive ingredients” still do things and count toward pregnancy and nursing safety. My list is more conservative than a few others, but the salicylates are pretty universally something that should be avoided while pregnant. More here: pregnancy beauty FAQ

Hello,
Just stumbled upon your website while doing research to edit things out of my skincare and body products before I start trying to get pregnant. The Coola Mineral Face Organic Matte Finish Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 you list on this page was one of my choices to replace my daily facial sunscreen. I also looked at the ingredient list myself and found an ingredient that sounded similar to salicylates. After some googling, I couldn’t find the answer. Could you help me figure out if ‘Calcium Sodium Phosphosilicate’ is a salicylate?
Thanks!
It’s not, it’s basically similar to a piece of glass. The salicylates all actually say salicylate, this is Silicate 🙂
