Hi mac bb cream is not safe for pregnancy because of benzophenone? I have been using it in my whole first trimester till 5 months because according to mac make up staff in the mall its safe for the pregnancy

That’s just one of the chemical sunscreens in the formulation, there are a couple (Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate is another). There are also salicylates, which is the aspirin family. It’s recommended to avoid all salicylates while pregnant, my OB included the entire class of chemicals on the “to avoid” list.

Hi, Thanks for the comprehensive list. Do you also check if products contain lead? I know it’s not listed in the ingredients but I saw on FDA website there are lots of lipsticks containing lead e.g. MAC Amplified in a lot of shades are listed there, but here you have it in safe for pregnancy. Looking forward to your feedback. Thanks!
I don’t include lead in my usual screening. Lead sounds scary but it is found everywhere in the environment around us and it does end up in products. As the FDA hasn’t pulled products from the market and we don’t say to avoid topical use, which is a much lower level of exposure than you’d get from drinking grape or apple juice for example.

When I open the link for Retro Matte Lipstick, the page shows one color that is Ruby Woo. Does this mean only this color is fine or other colors are safe too?
My second question is that the link for “Pro Longwear Lip Pencil” doesn’t show any lip pencil on Mac page, only a general Mac page opens in that link. Why is it so? is it still safe?
I screened all of the colors of the products, so all of the lipsticks, all of the lipliners, etc. They may have changed the link, but all of the pro longwear lip pencils are also ok. They just redirected the page.

In the US willow bark is considered a salicylate and uniformly it is advised to avoid it. Glycolic acid is more controversial. You’re in India, so they may look at the data differently, but in the US neither are considered definitely safe. More info here: skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy

Hey! Sorry if this is a silly question but… you’ve really helpfully advised that my MAC lipsticks are safe. However, I’ve had a few of them for a couple of years now (4-5) and they don’t smell bad, but admittedly I’ve never properly sanitised them. I’ve now scraped the top layer off and dipped them in rubbing alcohol… will they now be safe to use in pregnancy or should I throw them out? Does all of the rubbing alcohol evaporate fully?
The rubbing alcohol will evaporate. In theory those things are only “good” for a set period of time, and that varies depending on your source. But if they smell ok I personally would feel ok using it.

Also i want to ask about alumina and SLS. I know aluminum should be avoided in antiperspirants and of shampoo, well we dont have here a shampoo without sls or im not finding one. Is it still okay to use shampoo with sls while pregnant?
