Pregnancy Safe Products from Peter Thomas Roth

Pregnancy Safe Products from Peter Thomas Roth

Pregnancy safe skincare can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products. The list has gotten so large that I’ve decided to start listing brands in their own individual posts.

Here you’ll find every pregnancy safe skincare product from Peter Thomas Roth as of 4/25/2020. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. If they release a new product that is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.

Please note, it can take up to an hour to review the ingredient lists of each product. I review with my own list of pregnancy safe criteria. I obtain my ingredient lists from the brands and major retailers (typically Nordstrom and Sephora), and I review the US versions. Please do not ask me to re-review the same products over and over, I do not have the time to do so, and many people have been rude about this. For more brands, please head over to the list of pregnancy safe products.

Not Safe for Pregnancy or Nursing

Note I’m including products with retinoids here, as those are a bit iffy. It depends on how conservative you want to be while nursing (still absolutely contraindicated while pregnant). Refer to my post on ingredients to avoid while nursing for more discussion.

There isn’t info out there on the safety of Cannabis used topically during pregnancy or nursing. We do know smoking marijuana with THC has bad effects and should be avoided, though it hasn’t been fully decided if it is just the THC or something else as well.
Note that in theory Hemp and CBD do not have THC in them, it’s breed out of the plant is the official status. However, depending upon how it was processed many CBD oils will test positive for THC. But there are still the unknowns we haven’t decided about. I would not recommend using Hemp or Cannabis products while nursing or pregnant for that reason.

The wrinkle resist has retinyl palmitate so how is it safe?

          • 4.25.19
            15mins said:

Looking at the list now it is NOT the same as when the products were first released, it is about twice as long. And I looked carefully for retinoids before, because I expected them to be there. So, you’re right, it isn’t safe. But please note I am at the mercy of online ingredient lists, which can change and be updated and that is NOT my fault, please give me a little grace. I work with the information I am given.

Hi! Why is that some products with AHAs are marked safe and then others are listed as unsafe with specific mention of the AHA ingredients?

    • 12.19.19

It depends on whether the AHA is within an extract (which doesn’t count) or is a higher concentration chemical listed on its own. I look at the actual ingredient list, not what the brand puts in a product description.

I would avoid it in pregnancy for sure due to the kojic acid, and it’s one you might consider avoiding while nursing as well if you’re conservative about it. The Tranexamic Acid can be used to clot blood, and it’s one that I can’t find anything to say you definitely need to avoid it, but I would likely avoid it myself while pregnant/nursing

The list of ingredients that I screen out is here:
skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy

Propylene Glycol does not have enough evidence that the medical community widely thinks it should be avoided in pregnancy (note, my list is pretty conservative). It is irritating but not to all skin types, and this list isn’t about potential irritants. If you think I would knowingly not screen out unsafe ingredients, I think you need to realize how rude you are being and also seek information elsewhere.

        Dear Doctor,

I just asked because it was quite worrying when some websites mentioned Propylene Glycol. I am sorry if my question is that you are uncomfortable. Anyway, thanks for your reply, now I was able to continue using this product with confidence. This is useful website, many thanks !
