Pregnancy safe beauty products can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products.
Here you’ll find pregnancy safe products from IT Cosmetics as of 4/2/2023. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.
IT Cosmetics started to reformulate many of their products early 2022, I have re-reviewed their entire line as of 9/25/2022 and 4/2/2023. My list is consistent with what was on their website at that time, and it included many products shifting from avoidance in pregnancy and nursing to being safe while nursing due to the removal of Retinyl Palmitate. Note, just because the website says the ingredient has been removed, doesn’t mean the product you have in hand is the new formulation. Please double check your actual packaging (this is something I always recommend, please don’t yell at me about it).

What ingredient is the retinoid?

I don’t see retinol palmate listed on any of the cc cream ingredients when looking at their website. Can you explain where you are seeing this ingredient?
They’re actually in the middle of a reformulation of their products. In the past (since the beginning of the brand) all of those products have had retinyl palmitate. I haven’t updated the list yet as I doubt the new products have hit stores yet, last week when the new Nude glow was released I checked the others and their website still had the retinoid listed, but then when I checked this week (I’ve been stalking their site as I was hoping this would happen) it disappeared. I’m worried about what is in stores for a bit though, so I’ll likely modify the list above when I’ve gone to ULTA or Sephora in person and know for sure that what is in stores doesn’t have the retinoid. I would STRONGLY recommend looking for that ingredient on your actual packaging since this change is so new.
Actually wanted to ask you about CC Nude Glow whether it is safe for nursing, but saw one of your responses. I’m still wondering if you have an update. And btw thank you for doing this. I’ve been checking your page for more than 2 yrs now since I got pregnant. It’s been very helpful!
Nude glow is different as that’s a completely new release. It’s fine for nursing but not pregnancy, it’s here in the comments.

Hello! I’m a big fan of the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC cream. I stopped using it while I was pregnant but now that I’m breastfeeding (and dealing with some bad PP acne/rosacea) I was hoping to use again. This makeup is listed as not safe here, but safe for nursing in another area of the site (the page listing safe/not safe foundations I believe). Could you clarify? Thank you!!
The brand lists are always the most updated. I think the difference between the 2 is the retinoid, in between those pages I started listing retinoids as potentially something to avoid while nursing, it depends upon how conservative you want to be. Truthfully, I used retinoid while nursing. But in the last few years more and more physicians have mentioned it as an ingredient to avoid while nursing, though the reason to avoid in pregnancy (birth defects) can no longer be a concern. Nothing new has come out of the ingredient that I’m aware of to result in the change. Hi! The It cosmetics CC Cream Oil Free Matte SPF 40 is the only CC cream listed above as safe for nursing. Does it not have retinol? Every other CC cream is listed as not safe for pregnancy/nursing.

It’s the retinoid. It needs to be avoided in pregnancy for sure, and if you’re conservative while nursing.

I have concerns because before I came across your information I was using IT cosmetics Bye Bye Unde eye anti-aging concealer, which you listed as unsafe due to retinol.
I was also overdosing on Vitamin A (taking two supplements with preformed vitamin A). With diet, I would say that added to a total of 5,300 IU of vitamin A. It stopped at around 5 weeks of pregnancy.
I am very concerned about this and am wondering if you could tell me your professional opinion about birth defects related to all of these things combined.

That’s up to you. It’s a powder and shouldn’t penetrate, but if it makes you at all nervous at all it isn’t worth losing sleep over a bronzer.

This is a powder, which you don’t need to worry about. Please refer to this post: Pregnancy Safe Makeup Post. A lot of people ask if they need to worry about iffy ingredients in powders (note, this contains retinoids), but that’s really up to your comfort level.

I have been using the IT cosmetics confidence in a cream (hydrating moisturizer) – I am a lactating mother – was heartbroken to see that the cream contains retinoid since it gave me instant results. Is there a reason to worry for my child’s health? My LO is soon going to turn 6 months and would be weaning off – can I use the cream at that stage?
I wouldn’t worry about a few uses. You can use it after weaning.
Note, the instant results are due to hydration (it’s a very emollient cream), you might be able to replicate those results with another cream until then. The retinoid takes a minimum of 6-8 weeks to really work on your skin’s condition.

Why do you list certain ingredients afterwards? Snail secretion comes up in several lists for example and I was wondering if that’s not advised for nursing?
I list the problem ingredients after each product. Snail secretion is one to avoid in pregnancy.

Hi! I no longer see retinyl palmitate listed as an ingredient under the cc cream. Did they maybe change the formula and now it’s safe for pregnancy and nursing?
They may have changed it, though it was definitely there in my last review in January. I would check your actual packaging carefully as sometimes reformulations take some time to be reflected in the actual product you purchase as it takes time to finish old stock and get the new stuff rotating in. If there’s no retinoid it would be ok for nursing but not pregnancy because the other ingredients are still present.
Hi, I don’t see any retinoids listed as an ingredient in the CC+ Cream with SPF 50+. Is it possible they updated their formula?
It seems they may have if you look here in the comments, though it hasn’t universally made it’s way to all websites or products (I checked packaging at ULTA the other day). I would look carefully at your package before jumping in, It hasn’t reformulated… ever. And changes to formulas sometimes take a few months to really be seen by the consumer.

Hi there, I’m aware that you said not to worry about powders if they have retinyl palmitate. However, I have a question about knowing which version of the Bye Bye Pores Naturally Pretty blush I have. I threw away the box a while back, so I can’t check ingredients. I went to my local Sephora and the version they have does NOT have retinyl palmitate. However, on the IT Cosmetics website, it is listed as an ingredient. Is there a way to determine which version I have based on the information on the compact? It says on the back: S5270002 and MNT91W. I assume if there is a formulation change (adding or removing retinoids) that would change the product number right? I have been trying to find out, but maybe I’m looking in the wrong places?

This list doesn’t have one and is pregnancy safe. But check your packaging out carefully, there’s multiple versions out there currently in stores (hence, I haven’t changed the page to say it’s safe. Because sometimes it is not.)

They’re still in their multi-year reformulation phase. It’s in some product, but not all. Until it’s uniformly not found on shelves (I saw it at Sephora a few weeks ago), I can’t change my list. Look at your actual product carefully. But the newer version is this one, which is safe for pregnancy and nursing 🙂
