Pregnancy safe skincare can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products. The list has gotten so large that I’ve decided to start listing brands in their own individual posts.
Here you’ll find pregnancy safe products from Palmer’s as of 7/19/2019. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. If they release a new product that is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.
Please check this list carefully for your product. All of Palmer’s products have long names that I’ve noticed can be a bit different depending upon the store. Click around a bit to find your exact product, I promise I have included all of the Palmer’s products in the US that I could find! As a tip, look for the name with everything after Palmer’s. Not all of the products say Cocoa Butter on them, that’s just one of the product lines. Those products are so popular that many people think the Cocoa Butter is part of the brand name.
How to Request a Product Review
I try to review all of the products that I can when I publish a list. Note, I am in the US and I only have access to US products. Please don’t be rude if I skipped your favorite cleanser, when items are out of stock sometimes they aren’t on the brand’s site, or maybe you are in Asia and I am in the US.
I reserve the comments on each post for reviews of product from that brand, this makes it easier for others to find products later. Please only ask about Palmers on this post, I will delete other product questions. You can find other brands here. If your brand is not included, please ask on the brand list post.

Not Safe for Pregnancy or Nursing
Note I’m including products with retinoids here, as those are a bit iffy. It depends on how conservative you want to be while nursing (still absolutely contraindicated while pregnant). Refer to my post on ingredients to avoid while nursing for more discussion.
There isn’t info out there on the safety of Cannabis used topically during pregnancy or nursing. We do know smoking marijuana with THC has bad effects and should be avoided, though it hasn’t been fully decided if it is just the THC or something else as well. Note Hemp does not have THC in it, it’s breed out of the plant basically. But there are still the unknowns we haven’t decided about. I would not recommend using Hemp or Cannabis products while nursing or pregnant for that reason.

Do the palmers cocoa butter massage creams actually still contain salicylates? The two linked above I can’t find it listed on the ingredient list. (It is in older formulations, maybe they hid it and changed the name?)
I just reviewed the ingredients listed on the Palmer’s website on 7/19/2019, so it was very recent. I linked to the products on Walmart’s website as they had by far the best selection. You can check your product, but according to the Walmart and Palmer’s sites, both have Benzyl Salicylate in their lists. It shows up toward the end.
Hi! I would just like to clarify the difference between the “Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks” listed as safe for pregnancy and the “Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks Lotion: Salicylate” listed as not safe for pregnancy but safe for nursing. Upon clicking the product links, both show the exact same product but only in different sizes. Both have vitamin E also. I look forward to hearing from you as this product is what I’m currently using. Thank you!
So I had listed them separately because 1 listed salicylate in the ingredients, but the other didn’t have a listed ingredient list, I had to click on the image to look at the ingredients and it does NOT have a salicylate. I couldn’t get the image of the 1st to enlarge enough to read on the bottle if the ingredient list in the posting matched what was on the bottle or not. I thought it was odd too, but they appeared to be 2 slightly different products with the same name. Fun times!
today I can enlarge the salicylate image enough to read the ingredients on the bottle, and there is NO salicylate 🙂 It all makes more sense. Pregnancy safe!
hi,
so both the cocoa butter formula massage cream for stretch mark is ok for pregnancy? i bought this without checking so still contemplating whether to use or not.
I would look at the ingredients on your actual packaging

skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy
EDTA isn’t considered something to avoid according to any of the physicians I’ve spoken to, though it shows up on “clean” bloggers lists (not sure sometimes where they pick ingredients up from?). This product looks pregnancy safe to me.

Thank you for these lists, they have been so helpful!
Though, I have a quick question. I noticed that the “Cocoa Butter Formula Lightly Scented Fast Absorbing With Vitamin E Moisturizing Body Oil” is listed as pregnancy and nursing safe. But it also contains Benzophenone-3, does this mean the formula has changed since you last reviewed it?
It very well may have. Part of the issue with Palmer’s is that a lot of their products have very similar names and I wonder if they reformulate fairly frequently? I feel like there’s a lot of issues like that.
This list has been amazing for me to reference and I’ll be sharing this for forever for new moms. Question: Palmer’s Coconut Water Facial Moisturizer, safe or no?

Hi there,
Just enquiring on Cocoa Butter Hair Remover for Body by Palmers for Women. Ingredients listed below, thank you so much for your help.
Ingredients: Water (aqua), cetyl alcohol, calcium hydroxide, ceteth-20, mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum), thioglycolic acid, urea, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, tocopherol, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, sodium lauryl sulfate, myristyl alcohol, quaternium-15, stearyl alcohol, lithium hydroxide, fragrance (parfum), tetrasodium edta, heyxl cinnamal, butylphenyl methylpropional, amyl cinnamal.Paraben free.Made with Natural Vitamin E (Tocopherol).
Technically it’s ok, though keep in mind it uses a chemical to dissolve hair, which could be absorbed into the skin and body. It’s much safer to just use a razor.
Many of the Pamer’s products “safe for pregnancy” have Phenoxyethanol, which is really bad. I am confused.
No, phenoxyethanol is actually regarded by the mainstream medical community as safe. Info on what I screen for here:
skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy
Hi, I believe someone asked about this below however, the ingredients list on the website I purchased mine from differs a little. Possibly as I am in the UK. Could I please ask if this is still OK to use as newly pregnant and finding it all very daunting!
Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Laureth-7 Citrate, Laureth-4, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Sorbitan Oleate,Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil,Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil,Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Rosa Canina Seed Extract,Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Isopropyl Myristate, Fragrance (Parfum), Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional.
It’s definitely different because you’re in the UK, most of my readers are in the US like me.
This looks ok to me for pregnancy and nursing
Wonderful, thanks so much! I am relieved I can continue using this 🙂
Hello! Is Palmer’s Skin Success with Vitamin E, Complexion Bar ok for pregnancy?
Also, I know there’s a debate with the topical use of licorice root extract… but since this is a soap and will only be on my skin for a few minutes before being washed off, will it be ok?
Ingedients:
Sodium tallowate, sodium cocoate (or) sodium palm kernelate, water (aqua), glycerin, lanolin, ascorbic acid, tocopherol, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, glycine soja (soybean) oil, sodium chloride, pentasodium pentetate, tetrasodium etidronate, titanium dioxide (Cl 77891), fragrance (parfum), citronellol, limonene, hexyl cinnamal, hydroxycitronellal, butylphenyl methylpropional, linalool.
Thank you! 🙂
Safety isn’t based on how long something will be on your skin, most soaps are formulated to leave a residue behind. I would avoid this in pregnancy due to the licorice root, but ok for nursing

Love your page 🙂 Regarding the Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil, Rosehip Fragrance– you list it as pregnancy safe, however, on the back of the box it lists retinol. Is this still pregnancy safe?
thanks!
Bryanna
The info I have available from online has no retinoid in it, but if your box does I would avoid in pregnancy for sure!
