Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Ole Henriksen

Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Ole Henriksen

Pregnancy safe skincare can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products. The list has gotten so large that I’ve decided to start listing brands in their own individual posts.

Here you’ll find pregnancy safe skincare product from OleHenriksen as of 4/9/2020. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. If they release a new product that is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.

Please look at this list carefully, a few popular products changed categories with my 4/9/2020 recheck of the line!

Please note, it can take up to an hour to review the ingredient lists of each product. I review with my own list of pregnancy safe criteria. I obtain my ingredient lists from the brands and major retailers (typically Nordstrom and Sephora), and I review the US versions. Please do not ask me to re-review the same products over and over, I do not have the time to do so, and many people have been rude about this. For more brands, please head over to the list of pregnancy safe products.

Note I’m including products with retinoids here, as those are a bit iffy. It depends on how conservative you want to be while nursing (still absolutely contraindicated while pregnant). Refer to my post on ingredients to avoid while nursing for more discussion. I currently screen Bakuchiol out as a retinoid as there’s no safety data and it is touted to “work just like a retinoid”.

Goodnight Glow™ Retin-ALT Sleeping Creme (at Sephora): Bakuchiol, Stem Cells, Glycolic Acid, Licorice Root

I agree with Ana! Thank you so much for doing this! I realized that the Ole Henriksen «Express the Truth Moisturizing Creme» with African red tea extract, vitamin C derivatives and jojoba seed oil, is also not on there. I just bought a huge bottle as I thought it was the newer version of the Truth Advanced Moisturizing Creme, but then I realized that they were two different cremes. These are the ingredients:

Aqua/Water/Eau, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ethyl Macadamiate, Parfum/Fragrance, Glycerin, Triisostearyl Citrate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Palmitic Acid, Stearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ceteareth-20, Carbomer, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Dimethicone, Glyceryl Laurate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Stearate, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitol, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Hydroxide, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Vegetable Oil, Polyepsilon-Lysine, Caramel, Allantoin, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium PCA, Calcium Ascorbate, Magnesium Gluconate, Zinc Gluconate, Methylsilanol Mannuronate, Phenoxyethanol, Aspalathus Linearis Leaf Extract, Copper Gluconate, Myristic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Sorbic Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Malic Acid, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Limonene, Linalool.

    Is this safe?

    Thanks again! Love from Norway.

I tried to find out on my own with helpful info on your ingredients page but my scrambled egg pregnancy/mom to a toddler brain wants to make sure I’m not missing anything. Salicylic Acid in any amount is felt by the medical community to be an ingredient to avoid during pregnancy and is widely recommended to be avoided. There are some instances during which you could continue using it under your doctor’s supervision, but I am of the opinion that it should be avoided if possible.

    Hi there,

Goodnight Glow Retin-ALT Sleeping Crème does not have retinol in it. It has Bakuchiol instead which my derm says is safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Just wanted to check why you listed it as not safe? Thanks

    • 9.29.19
      15mins said:

Please read the post above, I don’t say it has retinoid, instead it has Bakachiol, a natural ingredient the brand claims works just like a retinoid. There’s no information specifically about how this ingredient works, so I have been treating it like a retinoid. Note, we also don’t have any specific information stating that it is safe. It also has other ingredients to be wary of that many OBs say to avoid such as licorice root. I’m more conservative than other sources, this is likely because I’m a pediatrician, and I’ve also spoken with a large number of OBs so I have compiled the ingredients they are worried about here. It’s up to you.

It can be so confusing and frustrating finding skin care and beauty products which are safe for nursing. 😪 I was wondering if you could give me some guidance on the Banana eye bright cream from Ole Hendriksen. I’ve been reading up and down the list and tried to compare the Ingredients with other Ole Hendriksen products but I can’t find an answer to whether it’s safe to use or not. I would appreciate it if by chance you could shine some light on this and help a very sleep deprived mommy out 😇🙏🏼 Here are the ingredients:

Water (Aqua), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Isododecane, Coconut Alkanes, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Polyglyceryl-3 Rice Branate, Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax, Cetearyl Alcohol, 3-0-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Glygerin, Dilinoleic Acid/Propanediol Copolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Cocoyl Proline, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Polyacrylate-13, Mica, Polysorbate 20, Caprylyl Glycol, Titanium Dioxide (Cl 77891), Polyglyceryl-6 Ricinoleate, Polyglyceryl-6 Caprylate, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Polyglyceryl-3 Cocoate, Pheno-xyethanol, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Polyisobutene, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Parfum/Fragrance, Tamarindus Indica Seed Polysaccharide, Tocopheryl Acetate, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract.

Here is a list of ingredients:

    Ingredients

I thought I had removed it from the list there months ago (apparently it didn’t save the change? I just removed it again) but it’s in the comments there and here and also on that post (which I have now changed to bold to make it more noticeable, but it said this before), that in the case of a reformulation you need to always look at the brand page for the most up to date information. I can’t remember every post a brand might be mentioned in, and so I always say to check the brand page for the info, it is impossible for me to update every roundup.

This was very recently reformulated I think (or online ingredient lists were updated). So you would need to check your packaging to see if you have the benzophenone-4 or not. In this formulation it is only ok for nursing, not pregnancy.
