Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Derma e

Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Derma e

Pregnancy safe skincare can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products. The list has gotten so large that I’ve decided to start listing brands in their own individual posts.

Here you’ll find every pregnancy safe skincare product from Derma e as of 6/23/2019. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. If they release a new product that is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.

Don’t See Your Product? Read This Before You Ask About It…

Please read the Pregnancy Beauty Guide intro first, where you will learn which products you actually need to worry about (spoiler alert, you don’t need to worry about all makeup or hair products). I will not review products that fall into the “don’t worry about it” categories. If you want to ask about a specific product, I require that you follow these guidelines for asking about pregnancy/nursing safety. You can also learn more about how to use these pregnancy safety lists. I will delete questions that don’t follow the guidelines or are rude.

Not Safe for Pregnancy or Nursing

Note I’m including products with retinoids here, as those are a bit iffy. It depends on how conservative you want to be while nursing (still absolutely contraindicated while pregnant). Refer to my post on ingredients to avoid while nursing for more discussion.

There isn’t info out there on the safety of Cannabis used topically during pregnancy or nursing. We do know smoking marijuana with THC has bad effects and should be avoided, though it hasn’t been fully decided if it is just the THC or something else as well.
Note that in theory Hemp and CBD do not have THC in them, it’s breed out of the plant is the official status. However, depending upon how it was processed many CBD oils will test positive for THC. But there are still the unknowns we haven’t decided about. I would not recommend using Hemp or Cannabis products while nursing or pregnant for that reason.

Absolutely so happy that I found your blog. I’m pregnant with baby number 2 and have been searching high and low for skin care that is safe for me to use. With my first I was so clueless about skincare that I didn’t use any my entire pregnancy and my skin really suffered. With this second pregnancy I actually own more than half the pregnancy safe products on the derma e list and it makes me so happy that I can still use them!

I’m not certain if the Centella Asiatica Meristem Cell Culture is a stem cell ingredient. Sometimes stem cells are listed this way, but not always. I would check into what the brand is claiming about stem cells in the product. My concerns are in this post: skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy.

It’s otherwise ok for pregnancy and nursing, so it’s really up to you.

Hello, I just wanted to raise your attention to something- I bought the advanced peptide and collagen serum thinking it was pregnancy safe. On their website the ingredients look fine, but then it arrived and retinyl palminate is listed as one of the ingredients on the box. Is this ingredient safe still for pregnancy or should I not use this serum? Thankyou so much for your time and putting this list together.

Would the safe products be the same as of today? I use the vitamin c cleanser and I just ran out and found out I was pregnant. Being the second pregnancy, I remembered not all facial cleansers and creams are allowed.

Anyways, would the DMAE cleanser and the vitamin c serum be safe still? How about vitamin E IU 14000 plus safflower seed oil (its an oil product) ingredients state: carthamus tinctures (safflower) seed oil and tocopherol acetate (vitamin e)?

I’ve been using the derma e line for the past year and it has changed my skin for the better, so I want to make sure I dont let my skin get bad again even though I know my pregnancy is number 1. Thank you so much!!!!

hello! I love the website, it is really well laid pout and easy to search for stuff. The one question I had is that you say you will note why the item is not pregnancy safe but I can’t seem to see where you have written that? Or is it that the ingredient you write next to the product not in bold, is the one that should be avoided?
I am specifically looking at some of the Derma E Acne serums / creams, are the ingredients to avoid Salicylic Acid and Willow Bark (Salicylate)?
The Acne Rebalancing Cream isn’t on here (I think it may be fairly new this summer) but I assume that is one to avoid while pregnant as it’s active ingredient is Salicylic Acid?
    Thanks so much!

    • 10.6.20
      Christine said:

Yes, the ingredient next to each product is the one to avoid. Sometimes people disagree with me and don’t care about Licorice root for example, so if they know I was only worried about licorice root in a product it would be important. I tried to make it pretty obvious for each product.
The acne rebalancing cream may have been released after my last full brand review, but if it has salicylic acid I wouldn’t recommend using it while pregnant.

Licorice root is fine for babies, though I would be careful with products with many extracts, they tend to cause reactions and babies tend to be very sensitive.

Hello and thanks for all of the resources you provide. Wondering if you could review the Derma E Thickening Shampoo. Especially wondering about the ingredient Tocopheryl Acetate (since it’s sometimes connected to Hydroquinone). Thanks so much!

Tocopheryl Acetate is vitamin E on it’s own, if hydroquinone was involved it needs to be labelled as such. The bakuchiol is a retinoid though, I would avoid in pregnancy and nursing.

Hi! Your site is SO helpful!!! Thank you so much!!

I have a quick question about the Derma-E DMAE firming eye cream you have listed on the “safe” list. When I click on it, it takes me to Amazon but it’s the Derma-E Stem Cell lifting eye cream. (I don’t see it listed as safe or not safe.) Can you help clarify, please…..which is safe or are both safe? 🙂
    Thanks again!

They likely reformulated or discontinued the product and redirected the link to the new product that they recommend to replace it. If you look in the post, I always post the date of my last review, which in this case was 2 years ago. A stem cell product wouldn’t be safe for pregnancy, sorry!

The struggle out there is real! I have gone through my beauty and skincare supplies more than once to get rid of toxins, but now that I am pregnant, I am ruthless with ingredient lists. Most things are straight forward, but there is other conflicting information. I feel really good using your list to cross reference with my information and my increasing mama-intuition. Thank you so much for doing the research and having this all in an easy-to-use place.
