Perfect Foundation Tips from a Beauty Editor

Amy Marturana has written for Huffington Post, and Prevention Magazine. She’s currently a writer and managing editor at You Beauty. I was able to ask her about her favorite beauty products and tips, she previously shared her favorite mascaras and mascara tips, as well some some great eyeshadow advice.

How do you prep skin for foundation?
My absolute favorite primer is Dermalogica Age Smart Skinperfect Primer. It goes on super smooth and matte, and has SPF 30. Many days I wear it by itself, with no other makeup on top.

Favorite drugstore foundation?
L’Oréal True Match Super Blendable Makeup. It’s super blendable and really does match a huge variety of skintones.

Favorite higher end foundation?
Giorgio Armani Luminessence CC Color Control. It’s a great fuller coverage foundation, with SPF 35, so sometimes I just use it as my moisturizer in the morning to get both benefits in one fell swoop.

What are your favorite tools for applying foundation?
I love the BeautyBlender. Makes it so easy to blend and buff foundation into skin for a seamless finish.

What are your favorite foundation application tips?
I only like to apply foundation to trouble spots on the face. Like a patch of discoloration, sun spots, visible veins, or acne.

Do you have any tips to help prevent foundation from oxidizing?
Never leave the lid off! It’s easy to leave your makeup strewn about when you’re rushing to get primped and out the door. But if you leave your foundation bottle open to the air, it will oxidize and over time, the color will change.

Yes, I still answer questions about product safety! You must follow these guidelines. Any rude comments or those not following the guidelines will be removed.
