Glowing In Winter: Shifting My Routine with Colleen Rothschild

As I’ve gotten a bit… older, I’ve noticed that the cold arid winter air has affected my skin more. I’m more likely to have lackluster skin, so dry that it can crack or peel if I’m not careful. I have to change things up a bit to stay on top of how my skin is daily in order to maintain my glow.

Lately I’ve found a winning combination of products that has made my skin nicely hydrated, perfectly prepped for makeup and I swear the extra hydration even helps my makeup last longer (especially under my eyes).

To achieve this skin care break though, I have been concentrating on 2 different strategies: daily gentle exfoliation and lots of hydration. I need both things in tandem, and I pay attention to how my skin is doing nightly to make small tweaks. Do I feel a little less glowy? It is likely time for more exfoliation, so I use a peel pad that night. Was I outside a little more and I think I’m dry? Then I’ll use the Hyaluronic Serum both morning and night instead of just nightly.

Balancing Gel Cleanser

My skin is a little sensitive, a little bit combination (I can get an oily t-zone in the afternoon sometimes), but mostly I’m dry. This cleanser is amazing at taking everything off of my skin without causing irritation or dryness. It rinses off easily and I don’t get afterwash tightness. Pretty much all of the things I look for in a cleanser. This is the cleanser I take with me when I travel.

Glycolic Acid Peel Pads

If I feel I need a little pick me up, I reach for a Glycolic Acid Peel Pad a few times a week. Despite my sensitive skin, I tolerate these really well. They offer just the right amount of exfoliation without irritating my skin, it’s really easy to just swipe the pad all over my face after washing.

Complete Eye Cream

This eye cream is a one stop shop for all things aging (circles, dryness, and wrinkles), but I mostly care how it works to make my eye area immediately better. It has just the right amount of hydration, sinks in quickly and preps my skin perfectly for makeup. It helps plump up my skin with hydration, making my makeup look better and last longer without getting cakey.

Hyaluronic Serum

This serum is the real MVP skin care product of winter skin.

You need hyaluronic acid if you want to add moisture to your skin but you don’t want to use a thick, heavy cream. This molecule holds 1000x its weight in water, so it can really bring a lot of hydration to your skin. This serum has 4 different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid, and they each penetrate your skin differently. The larger molecules stay closer to the surface for more immediate results such as skin plumping and smoothing. The smaller molecules can penetrate more deeply, for longer term moisture.

Depending on how dry my skin is (or how much time I’ve spent outside), I will use this serum 1-2x/day. I’ve found that it works great under my makeup in the morning, and I can even layer it under a moisturizer at night if I want.

Triple Defense Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 40

Even though winter in Michigan is very overcast, I can’t skip out on my sunscreen! This is especially true when it is snowy out, as the sun reflects off of the snow. I love this lightweight sunscreen each morning under my makeup.
