Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare

Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare

Pregnancy safe skincare can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products. The list has gotten so large that I’ve decided to start listing brands in their own individual posts.

Here you’ll find every pregnancy safe skincare product from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare as of 8/2/2021. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. If they release a new product that is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.

How to Request a Product Review

I try to review all of the products that I can when I publish a list. Note, I am in the US and I only have access to US products. Please don’t be rude if I skipped your favorite cleanser, when items are out of stock sometimes they aren’t on the brand’s site, or maybe you are in Asia and I am in the US.

I reserve the comments on each post for reviews of product from that brand, this makes it easier for others to find products later. Please only ask about Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare on this post, I will delete other product questions. You can find other brands here. If your brand is not included, please ask on the brand list post.

Thank you so much for your helpful website! Am pregnant with my first child and was wondering if the Dr Dennis Gross All Physical Dark Spot Sun Defense Sunscreen SPF 50 is okay?

    Ingredients are –

Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide: Mineral sun filters that sit on top of skin to scatter, reflect, and absorb UVA/UVB rays; they are the only sunscreens with the ability to reflect and mitigate the effects of blue light (HEV).
-Black Rice Extract: Potent antioxidant that simultaneously targets collagen degradation while supporting collagen Type I production.
-Mela-C Complex (Melatonin and Vitamins C and E): A precise blend of melatonin, three different forms of vitamin C, and vitamin E that work together to prevent visible hyperpigmentation and dark spots, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and target collagen breakdown.

Titanium Dioxide 4.9%, Zinc Oxide 4.42%, Water/Aqua/Eau, Glycerin, Isononyl Isononanoate, Pentylene Glycol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Coconut Alkanes, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Butylene Glycol, Melatonin, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Tocopherol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Saccharide Isomerate, Nordihydroguaiaretic Acid, Boerhavia Diffusa Root Extract, Phospholipids, Sphingolipids, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Zinc PCA, Sodium PCA, Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Oleanolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Bis-Ethylhexyl Hydroxydimethoxy Benzylmalonate, Sodium Hydroxide, Isohexadecane, Caprylyl Glycol, Propanediol, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Stearic Acid, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Acrylates/Carbamate Copolymer, Aluminum Hydroxide, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Flower Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate.

    Hello
Thank you so much for all your researches, profound explanations and for your passion. Incredible Webpage!!! Really helps me a lot, as I am pregnant and very interested in using safe products during pregnancy.

I use Caudalie, Zelens (you did not check this brand yet) and Dr. Dennis Gross (Superfood). Following questions:

    1. Will you also make researches on Zelens-Products? I use several products and not sure if pregnancy safe or not.
    2. I am interested to know whether the amount of a particular ingredient (e.g. retinol, licorice root, glycolic acid etc. is relevant to classify a product as “not safe” during pregnancy? According to several doctors I spoke to, the amount (less than 7%; 2%) is key and hence, not harmful. Indeed, the Superfood Serum from Dr. Dennis Gross which I am using daily has licorice root…

    What is your opinion?

    • 4.21.21
      Christine said:

I’ve just added Zelens to my to do list, I haven’t heard of them before.

The % ingredient is a bit controversial in the medical community, some think it matters, many think it does not. I’m one of the latter. There’s discussion here: But what about this % of an ingredient?

      • 4.21.21
        Ocean said:

Thank you so much for adding Zelens on the list. You will love it (I am absolutely fond of the products).

I agree with you, it is a bit controversial.

I read that most AHAs are considered unsafe in pregnancy. This is why I switched from an AHA chemical exfoliation to an alternative physical exfoliator. Glycolic acid is an AHA that is considered safe to use in pregnancy. My doctor said that I need to choose a glycolic acid that is 7% concentration or lower for safe use in pregnancy. Lactic acid is another AHA that is safe in pregnancy. Again, my doctor said to choose a modest concentration of the acid. He recommends 5% concentration or lower in pregnancy.

So you suggest to be consequent and to avoid e.g. Dr. Dennis Gross Eye Cream and Serum (Superfood), correct?

        Best wishes,
        Ocean

          Christine said:

This is something that’s somewhat controversial, but not all physicians consider glycolic acid to be safe in pregnancy. It’s highly absorbed (we have documented 28%, which is super high) and we don’t have safety info and we know it reaches the baby. So many think that glycolic acid does need to be avoided. Lactic acid is already made by the body (I check levels frequently in my patients for various reasons). So I would avoid glycolic acid completely.

Christine, thank you so much for your support! I will send back the products I bought newly from Dr. Dennis Gross. The ones from Zelens I wont use until I hopefully read your reviews.

What about mosquito repellents during pregnancy? It’s a huge topic for pregnant women. Might be interesting for you to research. I researched last night…haven’t found anything safe.

            All the best!
