Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Weleda

Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Weleda
Pregnancy safe beauty products can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products.

Here you’ll find pregnancy safe products from Weleda as of 4/9/2022. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.

Don’t See Your Product? Read This Before You Ask About It…

Please read the Pregnancy Beauty Guide intro first, where you will learn which products you actually need to worry about (spoiler alert, you don’t need to worry about all makeup or hair products). I will not review products that fall into the “don’t worry about it” categories. If you want to ask about a specific product, I require that you follow these guidelines for asking about pregnancy/nursing safety. You can also learn more about how to use these pregnancy safety lists. I will delete questions that don’t follow the guidelines or are rude.

    Hello doctor,
Thank you very much for your great website that helps so many women around the world to take wise and informed decisios :). I am pregnant with my first baby, and I kindly would like to ask your advice on these two sun lotion products from Weleda during the pregnancy and breastfeeding. Which one do you recommend to buy a SPF 30 or a SPF 50?
I am wondering also about the SPF this since I live in Sweden, and hence our exposure to sun light during the year is quite limited to mostly during the summer months.

Thanks again for your time and help
    Have a great day.

They’re both safe for pregnancy and nursing. With the hormones during pregnancy it’s best to go with the highest SPF that you can tolerate to use correctly, it’s a great time to develop melasma.

I had seen a few sites saying white mallow extract And borage seed oil may not be safe during pregnancy, but it’s not on your list to avoid so should be fine right?

Also, this isn’t skin care related but are hemp seeds ok to consume during pregnancy? I love the extra protein boost.

Thanks again for all your help<3

Those ingredients are both fine for pregnancy/nursing.

I recommend avoiding all hemp during pregnancy and nursing, especially ingested. This is my blurb for topical hemp/CBD, but it would apply more so if you’re eating it:
There isn’t info out there on the safety of Cannabis used topically during pregnancy or nursing. We do know smoking marijuana with THC has bad effects and should be avoided, though it hasn’t been fully decided if it is just the THC or something else as well.
Note that in theory Hemp and CBD do not have THC in them, it’s breed out of the plant is the official status. However, depending upon how it was processed many CBD oils will test positive for THC. But there are still the unknowns we haven’t decided about. I would not recommend using Hemp or Cannabis products while nursing or pregnant for that reason.

You can pretty much find info out there about avoiding everything possible, much of which isn’t based on much. It’s not considered an ingredient to avoid by the medical community. My list of ingredients that I screen out is very conservative and it’s here: skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy
