Hi! I’m curious about the SkinFix Redness recovery as it contains honey. Would this be safe to use while breastfeeding? Would there be any concern about “cross contamination” using it around an infant under 1 year of age? Might be a silly question! Thanks so much.
The reason to avoid honey under a year (esp raw/unpasteurized honey) is due to the risk of botulism. While the spores are pretty hardy and can survive a lot of things, it’s pretty unlikely they would survive in a skincare product, and then that your baby would somehow get enough from your face to be affected by botulism. It isn’t something that would enter your skin and then be in the breast milk. We think it is also fine for mom to eat the honey while nursing. Just don’t feed it directly to baby.

Just a quick question, I see that the Oil Foaming Cleanser is under safe for pregnancy and nursing and double checked the ingredients and there is gluconolacctone which you have mentioned to avoid. I just researched skifix resurface+ scrub and it has glycolic acid, which is topically safe for pregnancy according to several resources. The Willow Bark is safe topically as well, it just cannot be ingested. Why are these two listed as unsafe for pregnancy in a skincare item?

If you want to be really cautious and stay on the safe side, since your skin is often more sensitive during pregnancy, it’s best to use products with lactobionic acid or gluconolactone. These are polyhydroxy acids (PHA). Are these PHA safe during pregnancy? Yes, they are much more gentle and less irritating on the skin and as a bonus, they also act as a humectant and a powerful antioxidant.
