Hi,
I went to a fresh counter today and they done a mini facial walk through. I told the person I was pregnant and she told me just to avoid the black tea products. When it came to the lip sugar scrub she said this and the lip bam were fine to use. Is it OK that I used these as a once off? There both on the avoid list. Thank you

One question I do have.. What are you throughts on hair products, and lip products? I do know some of my hair leave in sprays have a salycilate ingredient, and some of my plumping lip glosses have retinyl palmiatate. I’m assuming leave off the lip gloss, and I would assume the leave in treatments, if they have this ingredient (saly..) but what about shampoos etc? Does the same go for them as well?
Lip products you actually eat, so they have more exposure than most other skincare products. Hair products you don’t need to worry about unless you’re leaving them on your scalp for an extended period of time. Hair spray for example I wouldn’t worry about, but a treatment shampoo that you’re leaving in for 5 minutes or so I would.

I haven’t found anything definitive either way, but that’s true of most ingredients. There aren’t really reasons to think it would cause problems based on what we know of it, and it’s almost always at the bottom of the ingredient list.

Hello just wondering if the herb rosemary leaf extract is safe in facial oils like the fresh seaberry moisturizing oil ? I am using it but read online that rosemary leaf extract is an essential oil not to be used during pregnancy – any idea ?
I wouldn’t bathe in it necessarily, but you can still eat Rosemary, which is a much higher level of exposure than use in topical products like these.

You can use it, but note that the usual advice to avoid fragrance during pregnancy is because it is a sensitizing time, meaning you’re more likely to develop a reaction to an ingredient.

The Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate is also a neuropeptide that absorbs into your skin and is meant to “freeze” your muscles similar to botox. I don’t have info on safety but it’s definitely something I’m leary of.

Hi, you’ve listed the Sugar Advanced Therapy Treatment Lip Balm as safe during pregnancy. However, I did notice that it has Ammonium Glycyrrhizate on the ingredient list (according to fresh.com and Sephora). Can you confirm that the presence of this ingredient would make the formulation safe for nursing but not pregnancy? Thanks!

It’s one of those things that we don’t actually have evidence for avoiding topically and I don’t know any physicians that recommend avoiding it. Some discussion here: ingredients I’m not worried about during pregnancy

I answered you about Sodium Benzoate yesterday, but it is NOT considered an ingredient to avoid by the medical community. My list of ingredients that I screen out is very conservative and it’s here: skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy. I do not screen that ingredient out.
