Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Milk Makeup

Pregnancy safe skincare can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products.

Here you’ll find pregnancy safe products from Milk Makeup as of 2/22/2024. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.

    Hi Doctor,

I’m curious about your thoughts on the Milk Makeup Kush Mascara, since you’ve previously mention that mascara doesn’t penetrate the skin. Their Kush Mascara contains hemp-derived cannabis oil.

Water, Paraffin, Glyceryl Stearate, Synthetic Beeswax, Stearic Acid, Acacia Senegal Gum, Butylene Glycol, Palmitic Acid, Polybutene, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Ozokerite, Aminomethyl Propanol, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Stearyl Stearate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Nylon-6, Papaver Somniferum Seed Oil, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil*, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Dipteryx Odorata Seed Extract, Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter, Cera Carnauba/Copernica Cerifera (Carnuaba) Wax, Silica, Tropolone, Aframomum Melegueta Seed Extract, Helichrysum Italicum Extract, Iron Oxide (Ci 77499).

Mascara is only applied to your lashes, which are dead protein. I don’t feel comfortable saying that hemp/cannabis is safe when it can be absorbed, but your lashes can’t absorb anything so it shouldn’t matter there.

I’m confused about the Hydro Grip Primer analysis. Milk doesn’t state that there are any sunscreen properties on their site or the bottle, but this list states there’s a chemical sunscreen in it. Could you confirm, please? Here is the ingredient list, is one of these technically a sunscreen?

-Hemp-Derived Cannabis Seed Extract: Hydrates and smooths the look of skin, while providing antioxidant benefits.
-Blue Agave Extract: Forms an invisible layer to grip makeup, smooth the look of texture, and seal in moisture.
-Prickly Pear Cactus Extract and Aloe Water: Hydrates, soothes, and calms skin.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Water, Glycerin, PEG-150 Distearate, Alcohol Denat., Polyglyceryl-10 Eicosanedioate/Tetradecanedioate, Diglycerin, PVP, Benzyl Alcohol, Sorbitol, Pullulan, Inositol, Betaine, Carbomer, Maltose, Xylitol, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Phytate, Benzophenone-4, Dehydroacetic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Agave Tequilana Stem Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Niacinamide, Propylene Glycol, Panthenol, Vegetable Amino Acids, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Extract, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Flower Extract, Prunus Avium Flower Extract, Citric Acid, Benzoic Acid, Yellow 5 (Ci 19140), Blue 1 (Ci 42090), Red 33 (Ci 17200).

Benzophenone-4 is also known as Sulisobenzone and is a chemical sunscreen. Frequently brands will include sunscreens even without an SPF value to help improve product photostability and shelf life.

None of those are ingredients that the general medical community says you need to avoid in pregnancy (we still let you drink chamomile tea even, that’s a much bigger exposure than topically). They’re found on various websites online, some of which are from people without medical background. I’m a pediatrician, and while my list is very conservative for what to avoid, it doesn’t include any of those ingredients. Here’s what to avoid: skincare ingredients to avoid during pregnancy
