Pregnancy safe beauty products can be super difficult and confusing. I have an entire guide devoted to what products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant and a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products.
Here you’ll find pregnancy safe products from Crown Affair as of 4/9/2023. If it is not safe, I’ll tell you why. All of the products meet my pregnancy safe criteria. Note I will link to every product directly to avoid confusion. You’ll know exactly which product I mean.
Don’t See Your Product? Read This Before You Ask About It…
Please read the Pregnancy Beauty Guide intro first, where you will learn which products you actually need to worry about (spoiler alert, you don’t need to worry about all makeup or hair products). I will not review products that fall into the “don’t worry about it” categories. If you want to ask about a specific product, I require that you follow these guidelines for asking about pregnancy/nursing safety. You can also learn more about how to use these pregnancy safety lists. I will delete questions that don’t follow the guidelines or are rude.

Ok for nursing but not pregnancy due to gluconolactone
Hello! Two questions for you –
1) Can you please clarify why the Crown Affair leave-in conditioner is listed as not safe for pregnancy, but the haircare overview page says “You do not need to worry about hair products” that don’t touch your scalp? I understand the shampoo clarification, but not quite the leave in conditioner.
2) The Crown Affair Flexible Hold Finishing Hair Gel has Gluconolactone in it – but would this / other styling products with this ingredient be considered ok as long as it does not touch my scalp?
Water/Aqua/Eau, Propanediol, Glycerin, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Acrylic Acid/VP Crosspolymer, Polyquaternium-11, Pentylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance/Parfum, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Panthenol, Aminomethyl Propanol, Polyquaternium-70, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Dipropylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Starch, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Sorbate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Xanthan Gum, Limonene, Linalool, Citral
I appreciate your reply, and thank you for all of your hard work on this site, it is INCREDIBLY helpful!
1- I now screen all hair products because even when a normal person wouldn’t put it near the scalp, I’ve had people leave insanely rude comments insisting I must screen those ingredients for them NOW and how dare I not do it? They do not care that their hair is dead keratin, they are clearly special and I must do it and why didn’t I already?? I’m tired of those comments. So I screen the ingredients. But if you are using them correctly it doesn’t matter.
2- I don’t see gluconolactone in that list. and yes, any hair product is fine as long as it isn’t on your scalp.
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! I’m so sorry you have to deal with those terrible comments!!
Apologies, it seems as though different websites list different ingredients… I’ll have to check the box in store to see which is correct, but this is the ingredient list I meant to send originally –
Water/Aqua/Eau, Lauramidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Sodium Laurylglucosides Hydroxypropylsulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Sodium Cocoyl Sarcosinate, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Glycerin, Ethyltrimonium Chloride Methacrylate/Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Copolymer, Fragrance/Parfum, Camellia Japonica (Tsubaki) Seed Oil, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Gluconolactone, Sodium Benzoate, Calcium Gluconate, Citric Acid.
This one has the gluconolactone, so Ok for nursing but not pregnancy. I would check my packaging carefully!
