Get the Look: The Perfect Beachy Waves at Torrid

How to Style Your Hair in Beachy Curls

Surely you’ve heard of Torrid, right? Yes, they’re a plus sized store, and while they might be in the mall they’re very fashion forward. (And for the record, the average American woman is well within that “plus sized” range, so maybe we should just call them clothes and not “plus sized clothes”?) Recently, Torrid held their first runway show, for Spring/Summer 2018.

They started things off really well, they had some amazing models (thank you for no size zero models!), and they had Redken Brand Ambassador Rodney Cutler to create the hair. “The Torrid show is truly from sidewalk to catwalk – starting with a country-wide model search for 10 finalists, who were first made over by Redken, then participated in a photoshoot, and are now walking in brand’s first-ever NYFW show. It’s been such a pleasure to be a part of this process and to bring my backstage expertise to this exciting time for the brand. The show and hair truly represents the Torrid woman – bold, beautiful and tough with the hair complementing the corsets and strong clothing featured throughout show.”

How to curl beachy curls

The hair was perfection. Perfection. These are the beachy curls/waves of my dreams! Here’s how to get the look!

Get the Look

Start with clean, dry hair.

If your hair is thick, prep dry locks with Redken Beach Envy Wave Aid throughout the lengths.

If your hair is fine, prep hair by spritzing Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam at the roots to pump up volume.

Using a 1” curling iron, curl lengths of hair while leaving 1” of the ends out to keep the hair beachy. Let hair cool.

Spritz lengths with Redken Wind Blown 05 for added texture, then comb out curls with a wide-toothed comb for soft waves.

Use a bit of Redken Fashion Work 12 to set the look.
