IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream Oil-Free Matte and Bye Bye Foundation

If you’ve read my blog for a while you know what a big fan I am of the IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream (buy them at Sephora in the original and illuminating versions). The CC Cream is medium to full coverage, it doesn’t crease and it lasts all day while offering a high SPF. It’s one I love to recommend over and over, and due to the popularity it is available in more stores and in more shades. Due to the popularity of the CC+ Cream, similar products have been released lately and I felt it was time I reviewed and compared them! The Best Mattifying Shine Fighters: Primers, Powders and Setting Sprays

It’s the middle of the summer, which means my face is a big shiny mess. Make is melting off by mid-day, and there’s definitely a lot of oil. Unless I take measures to prevent the oily skin and mattify! There are a lot of great products out there to help, here are some of my favorites. Primers 1. Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector 2. Cover FX Mattifying Primer With Anti-Acne Treatment: My favorite if you have blemishes 3. Cover FX Custom Blot Drops: I like to use these in my t-zone, sometimes I mix them into my foundation. I keep them at home, at work (for those 24-48 hour shifts) and travel with them. I just found out this morning that they’re being discontinued! I may have bought 5 within moments of getting that email…. 4. MAC Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone Treatment: Very lightweight, but not as mattifying as the other options and it comes in a very small tube. Perfect Skin in a Minute: Temptu Airbrush Makeup System Review

A few weeks ago on Instagram I shared this picture of a Temptu airbrush makeup system, I had just received it, and I was so excited to try it out! I’ve had it for a few weeks now so it’s definitely time for a review. Or rave. Whatever. Temptu is amazing. I said it. I admit that I was incredibly intimidated by the system for years. Just the idea of spraying makeup onto my face seems a bit… uncontrolled, right? What if it just goes all over? Does it really look that good? What about the color match? I’m pretty hard to match in a lot of brands of makeup, I was worried about finding a good match as well. All of my fears turned out to be rather silly. Perfect Canvas in Rose Beige is a perfect match for me (I’m a 3.75 in Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, and 1.25 Cool Ivory in Bobbi Brown foundation). It has a very natural semi-matte finish, and the shade blends perfectly with my skin. Best Foundation Primers

For the last few years I’ve had a product obsession that I haven’t really discussed much here on the blog, which is a bit surprising. I’ve been trying foundation primers left and right! I just can’t help myself! We all have changes in our skin’s needs throughout the year, and I’ve been changing up my primer to help deal with the changes as well. A more hydrating primer during the super cold winter? Sounds great! A mattifying foundation primer to deal with a shinier t-zone during the summer? Great idea! Today I’m finally sharing my favorite primers. Eventually I’ll write more detailed reviews, but in the meantime here are my favorites! Classic Primers If you’re not certain where to start, these face primers are cult classics for a reason. They’ll work for everyone! My personal favorite is the Laura Mercier, but I have good results with Hourglass as well. Smashbox is also very good, but be careful to let your moisturizer fully sink in to your skin and then only use a small amount of primer. If you apply the Smashbox primer too soon (or use too much) the silicone tends to pill up on your skin. Laura Mercier Foundation…

Quick Foundation Tip from Jake Bailey

I’ve been updating old foundation posts here on the blog today, and I came across this post from exactly 10 years ago. It features a fast foundation application tip from celebrity makeup artist, Jake Bailey. I had the chance to meet him once, and our 20 minute meeting turned out to be a couple of hours and he was amazing to me! Very gracious and funny, he was just as wonderful to this little makeup blogger as he was to his big name clients. This tip is still a great one, and I couldn’t resist republishing this tip again today. During our visit, Makeup Artist Jake Bailey was more than happy to share a few of his favorite “quick tips” with me! Jake said that on more than one occasion he’s been booked for a celeb’s appearance on a favorite late night show, only to have them show up about 10 minutes before they need to be on. The Powder Foundation I Love for Fall: IT Cosmetics Celebration Powder Foundation Review

I have a confession. I do not like powder foundations. But there’s one I keep using over and over. There are a few reasons that I usually hate powder foundations. My first exposure to powder foundations came through mineral foundations, which my skin doesn’t seem to like. Something in the foundations makes my skin itchy and rashy, I think it might be the Mica. Even when I do find a powder foundation that my skin can tolerate, I’ve found that the dry areas on my skin are very emphasized by powder foundation. This has gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. Despite this, there’s 1 powder foundation that I keep coming back to. The foundation is IT Cosmetics Celebration Powder Foundation. I love it because it works great as a setting powder, but offers more coverage than other powders. I’ve tried this with other powder foundations, but the IT Cosmetics foundation is my favorite. The trick is to apply the foundation with the puff (it is hidden underneath the foundation in that compact). CoverGirl Outlast All Day Concealer and Matte Finishing Powder Review

I’m a concealer snob. I like expensive concealers. They’re usually really well pigmented, blend well, and last all day. So, the fact that I’ve recently found two drugstore concealers that I can recommend and will keep using… that’s pretty amazing! The other concealer is Maybelline Dream Concealer, which is great because it’s a stick, but I don’t think it holds up super great under my eyes. I use it only on my face for blemishes. The CoverGirl is more multipurpose, I’ve been using it under my eyes and around my face. 820 Light and 830 Light/Medium The concealer comes in a very easy to use squeeze tube, it has a felted top. I have to be honest and say I don’t care about the felt top, I put the concealer on the back of my hand and apply it from there as usual. I dot it in a triangle under my eyes, around my nose, and a little on any blemishes. I buff it in small circles a bit with a brush (usually my EcoTools MicroBlending Brush), and pat it once or twice with a slightly damp BeautyBlender sponge. A Pressed Powder Splurge: Chanel les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour

I have to admit, that I splurged on a pressed powder compact about 6 months ago from Chanel, and I love it so much that I’ve now bought a second, identical compact. Even though I’m not anywhere close to being done with the first. Let me back up a moment and explain. I hate to reapply and touch up anything. You may have noticed that it is a bit of an ongoing theme in this blog. I want to do my hair, and have those curls last for days. I put on my makeup, I don’t want to touch it until the end of the day. I wear a lippie, it needs to last at least through lunch. Get the idea? I don’t carry much with me to touch up, other than roughly 20 lippie options at all times. (This is true, I actually counted them in my bag the other day with a friend while we were at our daughter’s ballet class. Serum in a Solid Foundation? IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact Review

Confidence in a Compact, Confidence in a Cream and Heavenly Skin Skin Smoothing Complexion Brush #704 A couple of weeks ago on Instagram I posted a picture of a new IT Cosmetics Foundation, and you can see me talking about it in the picture comments with a friend. What is this new foundation? It’s interesting. I think really, it’s a solid BB Cream. Or a solid foundation with a serum in it. Or some such thing. No matter how you describe it, I like this new Confidence in a Compact stuff. 1. Fair, 2. Light, 3. Medium, 4. Medium-Tan, 5. Tan, 6. Rich, 7. Deep So, this is pretty much just what it sounds like. It’s a solid foundation that does have a lot of slip and creaminess to it. When compared to my other solid foundations (especially the Bobbi Brown Stick Foundation I’ve been reaching for so much recently), this is not as thick, and it seems to almost melt on your fingertip. My 5 Makeup Basics for a Makeup Bag

I get asked a lot about my favorite makeup products, often from friends that are much lower maintenance than I am. I am high maintenance. I know this about myself, and I fully admit it. My husband jokes that I am not a 15 Minute Beauty girl, more like a 2 Hour Beauty girl. The problem has only gotten worse as I’ve gotten older, likely as I try to feel better about my (slightly) older self. But, I digress. So, these lower maintenance friends ask me about my favorite products. They want to know what my must have makeup products are. And really, for someone like me it can be hard to pare it down to the “basics” sometimes. But, if I had to pick, here are my 5 favorite, must have products for makeup (and note, 2 of them require “companions” to really get the most out of them).
