For the Beauty Spotlight Team we’ve been sharing the 5-10 products that we repurchase over and over. I couldn’t narrow down my favorites to so few, so I’m sharing all of my favorites in a much overdue Every Day Favorites update!
Today I’m sharing my favorite eye products. I have a huge collection of eye makeup. I think I have 2 drawers of shadows and another of mascara, liners and brow products. But there are a few that I reach for over and over!
While I own a lot of eye makeup, there are some products that I reach for over and over. My absolute favorites are here, they all just stay out on my vanity. I don’t even bother putting them away in a drawer!
Eye Primer: NYX Eyeshadow Base Get it at ULTA, Target or Macy’s I have a pretty large collection of eye shadow primers, but this little pot from NYX is my go-to for a couple of reasons.
First, I use the “nude” color, and it is actually a pretty good color match for my skin. I love that it covers up any visible blood vessels (and I have a lot), helping to make my eye shadow look much better.
Second, it is very easy to use. I tap my finger in the pot, then pat and blend with the same finger on my lid. You don’t want a lot of product, only a very light coating of the primer is perfect. With every day use, 1 pot lasts about 2-3 years for me. All of that and the results are just as great as the other, more expensive products!
Eye Shadow: MAC Jest Buy it from MAC, Macy’s or Nordstrom This is the shadow that I reach for when I have almost no time. It just works. Always. See how I’ve hit pan? This is probably my 5th Jest. (I have a backup waiting for me in the drawer, don’t worry.)
Jest is typically described as a “warm peach frost”, but I do think that it has quite of bit of pink in it as well. It’s a little darker than my own skintone, but not a lot. It has shimmer and frost, but it isn’t a lot. Phloof is another one of my favorite MAC shadows and it has a lot more frosty shimmer. I can use Jest as a single wash of color across my entire lid, or add a 2nd color into the crease if I have a little more time. Brown Script and Soft Brown both pair well with Jest.
Mascara: Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara Buy it from Bobbi Brown, Sephora or Nordstrom Since I use a lot of eyelash serum, my lashes can be a little out of control. Something about the serum makes my lashes difficult to curl and hold curl, but if I can get mascara on all of them… wow! It looks amazing. I’ve discovered that this Bobbi Brown mascara is the best for me, by far. It gives me lashes that go for miles. I buy it in bulk when it goes on sale!
Mascara Primer: Chanel Beauté des Cils Buy it from Nordstrom or Chanel When my lashes don’t have serum on them (aka- when I’m pregnant), I like to layer mascaras for longer and fuller lashes. And it works great for regular mascaras. But not for waterproof mascara. And since my waterproof mascara is only about 90% as great as my favorite regular mascara, even when I am lash serumed I use this primer under my waterproof mascara.
Waterproof Mascara: Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara Buy it at Nordstrom or Chanel I use waterproof mascara pretty much all summer long, simply because we put in a pool last year and chances are pretty good that I’ll be swimming each day! I’m one of those moms that is doing hand stands in the shallow end with her daughter, I’m not swimming around with my head out of the water.
After much trial and error, I’ve found that this is the best waterproof mascara out there! I’m sure that many of the others are great if you’re shedding a few tears at a wedding, but if you’re swimming in the pool then you want the Chanel. It looks just as great after 2 hours of swimming! I have found that while it has good volume, length and curl, it’s about 90% of what I’m used to with my Bobbi Brown. So I layer it with the Beauté des Cils.
Brow Pencil: It Cosmetics Brow Power Super Skinny Pencil Buy it from It Cosmetics, ULTA When I’m in a hurry, this brow pencil is my go to. A few quick strokes, then I soften the look a little with the spiral brush end.
Brow Powder: Chanel La Palette Sourcils de Chanel Brow Powder Get it at Chanel or Nordstrom If I have a little more time, I prefer the slightly softer look of this brow powder. I apply with an angled brush, just stroke the powder into areas that need a little more coverage. I’ve had this for at least 6 months and you can barely tell I’ve touched it. So, while it is a big splurge, I’m betting this brow powder will last me for the rest of my life!
