Recently I showed you Shu Uemura's Spring 2008 Rebirth Collection (I'm trying to figure out how to best photograph the looks I've come up with using the Tri-Color Eye Pencil, but I love them and a review is hopefully coming soon).
Anyways, Shu is doing something that I wish more companies would do, so I thought that by sharing perhaps we could encourage others to do this as well! While posting looks on-line is nothing new (nearly every cosmetic brand does this), Shu has taken it a step further and you can buy everything you need for each look with just a click of a button! I can't tell you how many times I've found an amazing look on a company's website, and then been incredibly frustrated trying to buy the products to create that look. One company in particular often uses discontinued shades, which just drives me up the wall!
So, check out the great looks over on Shu Uemura's website! My personal favorite is the Natural Beauty look (picture above), which is your favorite?

Well, it is once again time to run to MAC! The latest collection is Fafi, created by MAC and a French artist. This collection looks very bright and colorful, but is in fact very wearable for all ages. I'm 30, I went to the MAC store with a friend in her 40's (we both bought pieces of the collection). I have another friend in her 50's that also bought pieces of the collection. If we can all wear the collection (in addition to all of those in their teens and 20's I saw in the MAC store), then you can too!
One of the highlights of every new MAC collection is of course their famous eyeshadows. Well pigmented, they blend easily, last forever and the range of colors is amazing! This collection features two great eyeshadow quads, but I feel that the standout really is this quad.
Included in this quad:
Clockwise from upper left: Vanilla, Hey (limited edition, similar to vanilla but about 2 shades darker and with shimmer), Howzat (limited edition, a very pretty smokey gray), Pink Venus
Recently I was wishing for some pink paint pots, which I want to try on areas other than my eyes. Well, ask and ye shall receive!
The paint pots in this collection are all standouts. Really. All 6 colors (Girl Friendly, Nice Vice, Rollickin', Layin' Low, Perky, and Cash Flow) are amazing and must haves! I heard a rumor from one of the makeup artists at the MAC store that the paint pots from Fafi will all join the regular collection, which I still need to confirm with MAC's PR department. I'm praying that this tidbit of info is true!
This picture is a pretty true to life representation of the colors, with the exception that Layin' Low is a tad bit more of a peach than orange as shown here. If I had to pick a favorite shade of these paint pots, it would be Perky for now, but I'm very inspired by Karen's look over at Makeup and Beauty Blog, so I'll be using Nice Vice today to try and create a similar look.
As for using a paint pot as an all over color, I've tried it, and it's ok. Truthfully, the paint pots are hard to blend properly over a larger area, but if you apply it in small bits all over the staying power is amazing! I love Girl Friendly as a blush!
The actual blushes in the Fafi Collection look a bit scary in their pans. Aren't they incredibly bright? But, there really is no reason to be afraid!
Both of the blushes in this collection are very wearable! If applied with a good blush brush, both are sheer and provide just enough color. They are very buildable, so a few more swipes of the blush brush will create a more vivid look. The blush is fairly long lasting, looking like I just put it on even after a long day at work!
Many of the shades in this collection are very off putting in the tube, and would quite frankly cause me to run the other direction if they were more opaque! However, as you can see in these swatches (click to enlarge the picture), most of the shades are actually fairly sheer and are unexpectedly very flattering!
But, there are some unexpected shades in this collection. I have never seen a shade like High Top. It appears to be a mid-tone purple with green shimmer in the tube (it reminds me of OPI Have You Seen My Limo?). But, as you can see from the swatch, once on it changes entirely! It is actually a very unique and wearable sheer with a pretty pink/lilac tone with subtle shimmer.
All 3 lipglasses in this collection are amazing! As always, the lipglasses have great colors, great non-sticky shine, and definitely fulfill all of my holy grail lip gloss criteria!
You can see the shades very well in these swatches. Sugar Trance is a pale pink that is not completely translucent, so it does provide some light pink color on to my lips. Totally It is a bright but surprisingly wearable pink, while Cult Fave is actually my favorite of this collection. Cult Fave is the perfect pale pink for my complexion, it really seems to brighten and not at all wash out my super pale skin!
Fafi Nail Lacquers
MAC's nail lacquers cause great conflicts for me.
The colors can be very unique, with great depth. However, the wear (at least for me), is not equal to OPI, China Glaze or Essie. With a MAC mani I get about 3 days of wear versus my usual 6-7 days of wear.
But, if the color is as fantastic as Boom (pictured as my mani here, click to enlarge), then I'm more than willing to touch up my chips and reapply top coat everyday!
These powders remind me quite a bit of the powder from Elizabeth Arden's Holiday 2007 Collection. These pressed powders offer just a bit of translucent color to help highlight in addition to just beautiful shimmer! I have Belightful, which offers just a bit of bronzing, but all three shades are beautiful!
The eye kohls and fluid line included with this collection are basic white and black, but when used like in the Fafi look it is perfect to set off the shadows! The kohls are ophthalmologist tested, so safe for near your eyes (even if you are a contact lens wearer). The kohls in particular are easy to blend, and all of the products are pretty long lasting.

I love the new packaging that Lancome came out with recently for their glosses. The wand inside of this tube is a flat, oval shape, and is bent at the end of the wand before "puffing" out. This unique shape makes these glosses easier to apply in 1 stroke!
What is different is the Sunray shade. This image does the LUCI technology no justice, but trust me when I say that you'll need to check out the Sunray (white LUCI gloss) shade in person. This gloss is prismatic, with very fine particles that really allow light to play off of them. I'm loving this gloss over absolutely everything! I wear it with a lip stain, with a lip liner and over lip stick! It is particularly well suited to increase the fullness of my lips (which are honestly very thin) with just a small highlight in the center of each lip! I know that this lip gloss will be a classic, for which makeup lovers everywhere will be searching in several years. This search will not be unlike Annie's search for Lancome Erika F eyeshadow! I have to say that after seeing the pictures and hearing Annie's description of this shadow I am seriously lusting for it! Really, this gloss will be that shadow in a few years. Stock up!
The other gloss that I tried from this collection was the bright pink pictured here, called Seashell. This has a very subtle shimmer, but the pink is very pretty and is very well complimented by the rest of the collection!
The lipsticks available in the LUCI collection are also fantastic! You can see here that Luminous is a lipstick version of Sunray. The LUCI technology is in full effect, and this lipstick is great for layering! The swatch on my arm (please ignore all urgings you may have to place an IV in my arm, I have very good veins), does show some of the shimmer. You can see that the base color of the lipstick (and the gloss) is clear, with just shimmer. The Desert Pink in this collection is an amazing berry color, and it works very well as a lipstick, as a stain and with the LUCI gloss or lipstick layered over it!

I've made no secret of my love of nail polish. I'm a frequent visitor to Makeup Alley's Nailboard, and I'm afraid to mention the size of my own polish collection! For me, Essie has great nostalgia, I bought my first "salon" polish in college, it was Essie's Ballet Slippers.
To this day Essie is one of my favorite polish brands. They have great wear (I get 6-7 days from an Essie mani, despite my work in a hospital), and their light shades can't be beat! Many of my all time favorite bright and dark shades are also from Essie, including Wicked, Swing Velvet, Watermelon and Plumberry.
This spring, Essie's In the Mood collection is a great range of light shades, but a tad "darker" than their norm. I especially love Secret Affair, the slight shimmer and pink tone to this one promise to make it just as beloved as Jackie Oh My!
I wanted to swatch these on my own nails, but I'm so stained from months of vampy shades that I wasn't able to do the colors justice! You'll have to be content with these nail wheel swatches for now.
"The New Neutral: A little gray, a little pink, a lot of style"
"An opalescent taupe with a blink of pink"
"A fun, alluring pop of sheer lavender"
"A flirty pink, very light yet slightly bright"
"An innocent sheer pale pink"
"A soft, sheer gray with a very subtle hint of glimmer"
In the Mood will be available February 1st.

I like my highlighter to be white or at least very pale, very translucent and to have very subtle shimmer. A gel or thick cream is the easiest to apply, and I want it to be long lasting. My quest didn't last very long, the answer came in a box from Lancôme! Not only that, but this is a Holy Grail worthy product, and you'll need to stock up!
I tried this product out in Chameleon, a pearly slightly off white cream that has this spring's L.U.C.I. technology. It shimmers and sparkles, truly like the beach sand that inspired Gucci Westman. Lancôme has a lot of talent in their labs, because this product is genius! Once on the skin it is very subtle, but the shimmer is definitely there. It simply makes your skin look radiant! The product is perfect for highlighting your cheekbone, inner corner of the eye and my favorite- the brow bone! It even lasts all day!

MAC sure has been busy lately! It seems as if the new products never end, and somehow they seem to be getting better and better!
The N Collection was a HUGE hit at the Spring 2008 Fashion Shows, and I can certainly see why. Very rarely do I want an entire collection, either makeup or nail polish (strange but true, I didn't even get all of those OPI Hollywoods that I love so much). But, I think I need all of these items!

Prescriptive's Spring 2008 Collection will be available at Prescriptives Counters Nationwide on January 15th, and is currently on Prescriptives.com. You need to run soon and buy this collection! Looking at these shades they will be must haves!
For me (a girl who resolved that she'd try more color this year) many of these products with their new formulations will be perfect! I love the punch of color with just a bit of edge!
Blush More or Less $21.50
This product really intrigues me. A cream blush that comes in a compact, the blush also promises the light texture of a mousse blush. Prescriptives promises that the finish is a non-drying powdery finish and that the color is buildable. To me that sounds like the perfect cream blush!
Lip Strips $29.50
Prescriptives always has great lip glosses, and these compacts carry 5 shades each of gloss and while they are labelled "warm" and "cool", I think that these shades would work well on nearly everyone!
Colorscope Lipcolor $17.50
Both of these shades look very pretty, I'm excited to try out Pink Dahlia!
Colorscope Eye Color $14.00
As much as I like the rest of this collection, I'm not sure that this shadow is anything special. I'm disappointed that it is limited edition because it seems to me that this should be a long-term color that would likely be one of their biggest sellers. This shade in a matte finish just seems to be a very versatile, basic color to me.
Perfect Every Line Gel Liner $17.50
To me, these gel eye liners are the real stars of this collection. I have a Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner (BB is also owned by Estee Lauder), and the formulation, application and staying power of that eye liner is amazing. So, I have big expectations for this gel eye liner from Prescriptives! All 4 shades will be big winners- I think I'll need to buy them all!

I finally realized that I have never posted about NARS, which is odd since I love NARS. Curious about what is new with their products, I rushed over to their site just in time for the news about Spring 2008!
Just looking at the products, they seem to be somewhat disjointed, and don't really fit together as a collection. But, upon further investigation it turns out that this is a look inspired by Marlene Dietrich. Think strong brows, strong lip with subtle eyes, suddenly this seems like such a fresh idea!
All three of the eye shadows in this collection look soft but with frost/shimmer to keep things from being too boring
Both of the lipsticks work well with the "Marlene" look, and are also great for this winter!
Thank goodness they decided to release this lip gloss on it's own! The Dolce Vita shade has long been a favorite lipstick of mine, it's a great red/berry color that is very flattering to all skin tones. Released this Holiday as part of a set (with eye shadow) for Sephora, it appears this color is now available on its own!
For days that you feel more like playing up your eyes, you'll need a pale lippie, and these will be perfect! Just add the eye shadows, a thick dark eyeliner and some false eye lashes and you'll be set!
