Foundation Guide with Tips and Tricks

Ah, foundation. We all love to look like we have perfect skin, and sometimes the only way to achieve that look is with a great foundation. But it’s tricky. One wrong move, or a week longer with a shade match than you should have gone, and things can go downhill really fast!

I’ve collected all of my favorite foundation posts here. The foundations reviewed are ones that I’ve loved (and as of January 2018 they’re all currently available).

I’ve shared some of my recent favorite foundations in this Every Day Face Makeup Post, though there are actually a few foundations that I currently rotate through (note, this is January 2018 as I write this).

Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick
Buy it from Bobbi Brown, Sephora or Nordstrom
In the winter I use Cool Ivory 1.25, in the summer I mix in a bit of Cool Sand 2.25, but I don’t match Cool Sand on its own.
I love how easy this foundation is to use! I use it on my face after this super hydrating moisturizer and a few drops of this primer in my t-zone. I just draw it on my face, mostly in the middle. Then I swirl around this brush, and that quickly distributes the foundation and blends it. It has full coverage and lasts all day!

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
Buy it from Giorgio Armani, Sephora or Nordstrom
Here is my original Luminous Silk Foundation Review, I wear 3.75
This is a more traditional liquid foundation, I love how natural it looks after blending. It has a medium coverage that builds to full if needed. I mix it on the back of my hand with the Fluid Sheer in 2, then dot it on my face with a finger tip. I use a damp BeautyBlender to blend, I roll and pounce it around my face.

Lancome Miracle Cushion
Buy it from Lancome or Nordstrom
Here’s my original Lancome Miracle Cushion review, I wear 110
The Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation is very close to the Lancome and much cheaper! I wear the Lancome more as it is a much better match for my skin.
I use the applicator that comes in the compact, I roll it up a little bit and roll it around on my skin to apply a light layer all over. If I need to do any additional blending I pounce a dry BeautyBlender over the area.
