Joy to the Girls: A Look at Too Faced's Holiday Collection

Product Sent for Review

Too Faced Holiday Collection, Joy to the Girls, Review and Swatches

Last week, I was one of the few lucky bloggers that Too Faced sent their holiday collection, Joy to the Girls. It took me forever to go through all of my photos. I ended up with the biggest Photoshop file I've ever had (it was 55 megabytes!), and I have to admit that since they've arrived, I've been using these palettes every. single. day. You want them, you want as many of them as you can get your hands on, and that cute chevron is only a bonus.

I have a million pictures to share of the collection, you can see them after the jump (because without a jump this post is mega-long and would be annoying on the front page).

Too Faced All I Want for Christmas Set
All I Want for Christmas $45

This is a great little set that has everything you need for a look. It all comes nicely packaged in a cute vinyl bag.

Included in the set:
• La Creme Lip Cream in Believe, an exclusive shade
• Shadow Insurance Lid Primer (a must have!)
• Blush/Eye Shadow Trio Compact
• Perfect Eyes Eye Liner in Perfect Black, Deluxe Size (this is pretty much my go-to liner now, it's the perfect
• Lash Injection Mascara, Deluxe Size

Too Faced All I Want for Christmas Blush and Eye Shadow Trio

I have to say that I do really like this trio. The ivory is a good "nothing there" color for my lids, so it doesn't really show up (it's there in the middle), but the taupe is sooo pretty, and the blush is very nice.

Too Faced All I Want for Christmas, Believe Lipstick Swatch

Believe is a great coral shade that will work for a lot of people. It is nicely hydrating and lasts about 3-4 hours on my lips.

Too Faced Jingle all the Way Set
Jingle all the Way $25

There are 2 different versions of this set, a mint with gold dot case and this pink and gold chevron (which is Sephora Exclusive). Other than the case, the sets seem to be identical. The cases themselves are simple molded plastic and just snap on to an iPhone 5, they don't cover anything on the front. (And yes, my phone is in that case, and I did need a new one when this arrived! Thanks Too Faced!)

Inside of the compact:
• 11 shadows
• Blush
• Bronzer

Too Faced Jingle all the Way Palette Swatch

I found that the 9 shadows at the top are pretty good, except for that champagne sparkle in the center top, I found it to be too powdery with a lot of fall out. It's a very pretty color, so I'm planning to pick up the Shadow Insurance glitter primer and try it with that.

I love that they included much larger pans of the 2 most basic colors, and while you wouldn't use this palette as your "main" at home shades, you could certainly touch up or transition from day to night while at the office!

Too Faced Be Merry Be Bright Palette Set
Be Merry and Bright $45, ULTA Exclusive

This is definitely the set I would be buying (first) for myself. I love that there are 2 different palettes in this set, and they're both neutral enough to work for everyone but they are not boring.

Included in this set:
• 2 Palettes, each with 6 Shadows, 1 Bronzer/Blush and 1 Luminizer
• Lash Injection Mascara
• Vinyl makeup bag, 1 side clear and 1 side gold with polka dots

Too Faced Be Merry Be Bright Palette Swatches

It wouldn't be a Too Faced palette without eye look diagrams from Jerrod! I confess that I usually start with these ideas and then come up with my own later, but in this case I haven't even looked at the looks yet. Instead I'm using a few of the colors over and over, more on that in a bit.

Too Faced Be Merry Palette Swatch

Confession: Bubbly might be one of my favorite highlight/neutral shades of all time. It almost doesn't show up on me, except for the amazing shimmer. It's there and pretty, but not overwhelming. This is amazing all over my lid (with a bit of Wish from the Be Bright palette for my crease and outer V), the black Perfect Liner smudged really well into my lash line and a lot of lash thanks to Better than Sex mascara.

Too Faced Be Bright Palette Swatch

Marshmallow all over with some Mauvelous on my lid is a new favorite combination for me. The Mauvelous does have fall out thanks to all of the glitter/shimmer, and I'm planning to get the glitter Shadow Insurance, but I don't even care. This combination is just. so. pretty. Again, Perfect Liner in Black and lots of lashes go well with it.

Sequin is also really pretty and I'm just looking for some time to play with that, I want to make a smoky eye look with that color and maybe some navy!

Inner light is an amazing highlighter on my pale skin. I love just a little of it on my upper cheekbone.

Too Faced A Few of My Favorite Things Palette and Set Review and Swatch
A Few of my Favorite Things $56, Sephora Exclusive

This is a pretty large palette that includes shadows to make everyone happy. There are 20 shadows. Yes, 20. There's a good combination of light and dark, neutral and just colorful enough to provide some fun.

Included in the set:
• 20 Shadows
• 2 Blushes
• 2 Bronzers
• Lip Injection Color Bomb in Bee Sting
• Better than Sex Mascara, Deluxe Size

Here's a closer look at the palette and the Lip Injection. A Lip Injection is basically a lipstick, but it does have some plumping effects so you'll feel a little tingle after application. I've been wearing this almost nonstop since I got it.

Of these colors, I've probably been wearing Crisp Apple Strudel the most, it pairs really well with some of the other palettes. The Raindrops on Roses blush is a great color for my pale complexion as well.

There's a final set that I don't have, Joy to the Girls. It has 15 Shadows and a Lashgasm mascara for $46. I'm pretty sure I'll be picking it up after using these set, the shadows are all well pigmented and easy to blend without any creasing or fading issues. That set has a very pretty purple called Sugar Plum that I'm dying to have!

What do you think, will you be picking up any of these sets or asking for them for a holiday present?

Christine, thanks so much for doing this post. It must have been very time consuming; your efforts are appreciated. The only set my local Sephora has in stock so far is A Few of My Favorite Things. I was in a time crunch and had stopped in for a couple of specific things. I saw this but didn't have time to swatch anything. I've been seeing it on blogs and thought I really wanted it but your swatches have helped me decide I don't need it. So thanks for saving me some money! An I'm not implying that your swatches are bad, quite the contrary. They showed clearly what I feared the most; the colors I would be most interested in are too glittery. I can handle some shimmer but I have no patience (or liking) for glitter and the fallout hassles. I'm about ready to sell my soul for SOMEBODY to come out with a holiday palette that doesn't require glue to wear the eyeshadows!

Hi Deb!
I know what you mean, some of my favorite shades were more glittery than I would have wanted. I was ok with it since I do have some similar shades, but the fallout was disappointing. I can wear Mauvelous with patting it on carefully, but I know I'm not getting the most out of some of the shades. I'll give an update after I have a glitter basecoat. I'll probably order the glitter base from ELF too!

I don't have the energy to do that much swatching so I love that you did this. Now which to buy? I can't not buy at least one.

Hi Christine! I was just about to ask you about the glitter primers/base coat. Please let us know what you think of those--I didn't know that ELF has one so I should probably check them out.

@Marcia- I know! I'm buying the last set I don't have, I really do love these!

@magstermash- I've already filled a cart over at ELF to buy theirs. I've heard their glitter primer is good, but I've also heard their regular eye primer is good and I just don't like it. So, we'll see! The TF one I'm sure is also good, I really love Shadow Insurance.

Wonderful review, Christine! I really love seeing your reviews because 1. our skin tones are similar so it helps me see how it might be on me, 2. you always give really honest reviews, and 3. I really respect your opinion. This review has talked me out of these sets (not because of you but because of the products). I agree with Deb, they're too glittery for me. And a couple of shades I thought I might like look too orangy for me.

I can't wait until my Ulta gift cards arrive so I can buy ALL of this. So far, Too Faced is one of the best Holiday collections I've seen!

While I like most of the palettes, I will most probably skip because I never ever reach for big palettes! I always panic a little not knowing what to pair with what LOL That's why I stick to trios and quads most of the time. They would indeed make great presents for fellow makeup lovers though!
