SkinSonic: The Clarisonic's Cheaper Dupe

SkinSonic: The Clarisonic's Cheaper Dupe, copy, imitation
I recently shared my favorite products with you, and the Clarisonic was one of the most expensive items on the list at $195 for the Classic model that I use. I'm not an every day Clarisonic girl, but I do use it a few times a week and I love it! Even with the newer, smaller and less expensive model, the Mia, a Clarisonic is quite the skin care investment.

So, I was excited to hear that some lower priced options are popping up out there. I thought I'd take this one, the aptly named Skin Sonic for a test drive. Read on to see what I thought!

Overall, I get the same results with the SkinSonic as I do my Clarisonic. And it is about 25% of the price of my Classic Clarisonic.

To get those results, there are a few differences between the SkinSonic and the Clarisonic.

• SkinSonic is a tad smaller (I don't have a Clarisonic Mia, but I would guess it's about the same size), and the SkinSonic is a bit lighter.

• Both have the same rotating heads, and they both have the "Sonic" action which set them apart from all the other hand held skin brushes on the market. The movements of my Clarisonic are a bit smaller, the SkinSonic feels like the vibration has a larger amplitude than the Clarisonic. The difference is minor.

• The Clarisonic is waterproof and comes with a stand that charges it. The SkinSonic is also waterproof and comes with a stand though it is powered by AA batteries.

• The Clarisonic has 2 available brush heads (normal and sensitive), as does the SkinSonic. Though, the SkinSonic has a few additional heads: applicators for exfoliation and moisturizers as well as a massaging head that I was too afraid to use. The exfoliating and moisturizing applicators are similar in texture to a makeup sponge. I tried them out, I didn't think that applying my moisturizer this way was any different other than being slower. The exfoliation was definitely more vigorous, and I urge you to be very cautious with this head as you could do some serious damage to your skin if you go crazy! If you're careful, I did really like this feature.

• My Clarisonic somehow just feels more substantial and harder to injure, though the SkinSonic doesn't "feel" cheap.

If you've been wanting to try out the Clarisonic but the price tag has scared you off, this is definitely worth checking out. I'll be sticking with my Clarisonic for regular use (I like that it can recharge), but the SkinSonic is definitely being added to my travel bag for its battery operated portability and smaller size. If I didn't have the Clarisonic already the SkinSonic would definitely have earned a permanent spot on my vanity.

Update: I've heard from people saying that they are having a lot of issues with the Sirius customer service, some even seem to think that I'm the company. I think they're a bit confused, since I'm obviously not???

Anyways, I'm going to leave this post up as I did like the product, but note that I dealt only with their public relations, not regular customer service. This blog isn't the correct forum to complain about them and being insanely rude to me won't help you either.

I received the product to review, and I was honest about my opinion in my review, but I was not paid to do so and in fact have given the product to my cousin since that time. So, I don't even have it any more. I've closed the comments to this post, please take your concerns directly to the company, not to me.

  1. Thank you for this! I've been wanting a Clarisonic but even the $150 Mia is more than a college student can spend on skin care! I will be checking this out!

  2. Ooh, I'm going to track this one down. Do you know if it's available at drugstores?

  3. This device sounds great!!! Of course, as fate would have it, I just purchased a Mia! Glad to hear there is a more affordable option out there!

  4. I think it's only available at their website unfortunately. Though it looks like they have free shipping, which is helpful!

  5. Wow. This is really a great find because like you said the Clarisonic did scare me with its price but being able to use a cheaper 1/4 of its price alternative is a great help especially in such difficult times!

I will definitely be checking this out. Do you happen to have any promo codes :D? That'll be asking too much hehe just wondering. Thanks once again for such a great review!

  6. There was rumor from the company about having a promo code... :D I'll ask!

  7. I got the Sirius Skinsonic and it actually is diffeent from the Clarisonic, as it does not rotate at all. The brush only vibrates. If you wish a discount, you can sign up for the newsletter of the blog "Truth in aging" and you will receive a code for 10% on everything on their store and they carry the Skinsonic.

  8. I love my Clarisonic brush. It keeps my skin feeling soft and clean. I use it in the morning, and I swear it keeps me younger.

  9. I have both but I prefer Clarisonic as it keeps my skin nice and supple throughout the day. :)

  10. It doesn't rotate? What? You can't be telling me the Neutrogena waves sonic has a wider range of motion that this? The whole reason i wanted to get this was because it doesn't just vibrate your face. Grrr

  11. This truly works wonders - everyone says I look good for using it

  12. I just ordered it! How long does it take to come in?

  13. Guess what, I ordered it too. No tracking number or what so ever and it has been 1.5 weeks now... & I live in Canada && no sign of the package. Even the bath and body work stuff I ordered came already like a week ago. Skinsonic has horrible customer service & delivery notifications and website is just really bad looking.

  14. It doesn't rotate, similar to the Clarisonic it has "sonic" movements with small vibrations. Personally, I didn't find this to be an issue. I thought it still did a good job, better than the Neutrogena Wave that I have.

Anon on 8/14 and 8/25- I don't know how long shipping typically takes. I dealt with their PR rep and I had it in my home about 4-5 days after saying I would try it out. I can't remember if the PR person shipped it or their normal shipping department. I would try to call the company directly if you are having problems, I have no affiliation with them other than they offered me one to try out, so I did and wrote my honest opinion. I will say that in my experience shipping across international borders is always haphazard and frequently doesn't have much to do with the company- sometimes stuff just gets slowed down. SkinSonic is also a vendor on Amazon (here's their vendor profile and they have good feedback, though not much feedback at the time I'm writing this), and all 5 comments say they received their packages on time.

  15. Hey I live in Canada it has been 3 weeks since I ordered it and I still haven't received it. If any Canadian received theirs, please let me know after how long, I'm beginning to think that I will never receive it.

  16. Nice idea for my wife birthday! Where can i found this on better price?

  17. I have the Olay gadget - works pretty good, certainly for $25! Now the Olay rotates...What are "sonic" movements?

  18. Well, you can feel it vibrate but it isn't a big movement. Really, a small, super fast movement. In theory it's more effective than the big movements. I haven't tried the Olay yet, it is actually sitting in my office right now, I need to pull it out!

  19. I went to ordered a set of facial brush, and the service is completely awful!!!! Have not received a confirmation about purchase or shipping. It has been two weeks i have not received the device and left the 4 messages so far. Their customer service line is actually a voice box there is nobody weill answer the phone.

Will never buy anything from this company!!!!!!
