Humidity Proof Hair, It Does Exist: Avon's Lotus Shield

humidity, frizzy hair, Avon Lotus Shield, ReviewInside of that little orange bottle is a serum that should be on every woman's shopping list. Truly. I'm sure you've seen the ads for it, and thought "yeah, sure Avon can fight frizz that well."

Well, guess what? That ad is no exaggeration. I'm not the only one in love with this product (check out what my friend Diva Debi had to say about it, I'm still laughing, but again, she's not lying).

Inside that little bottle is a milky white serum that you apply to wet hair (I use about a nickel amount, then comb through with a wide tooth comb), and then style hair as usual. I've used this product when blow drying my hair straight as well as on days that I've let my wavy hair just be wavy. I've used it with blow drying and air drying.

Perhaps most importantly, I've been using it throughout most of this horrible heat wave that has hit the country. Here in my neck of the woods, it has been accompanied by 60-70% humidity most days (at least according to the little weather station we have in a tree in the back yard). Which means I've been exposing my hair to humidity that should be turning me into Monica in Barbados. Instead my hair is smooth and shiny, not an area of frizz in site!

Lotus Shield promises to keep your hair frizz free for up to 3 days in up to 97% humidity. I really think it works. There are other anti-frizz products on the market that also work (in the past I've been a big fan of Living Proof). I do think that the Avon product works better than the combination of products I need from Living Proof. It is also cheaper and you can still use all of your "regular" hair products. Just add in Lotus Shield if you think there will be a humidity problem that day.

Avon Advance Techniques Frizz Control Lotus Shield

  1. Holy cow, that's amazing. There's nothing like a product that actually lives up to its promises!

  2. It really does!

I just got home from having my hair cut. I'd used the Lotus Shield 2 days before (so, this morning was day 3), and in our crazy humidity I had even wandered our famous Art Fair (hint, where do I live??) for about 3 hours yesterday. My hair was super straight, no frizz in sight- perfect!

My hair dresser dried my hair and used one of those typical anti-frizz silicone hair products on me. Obviously in a salon she can't use Avon. Walking from the door of the salon to my car was literally about 20 feet at the most, and I was already frizzing! It was about 10 seconds! I immediately applied Lotus Shield when I got home to preserve the rest of my blow out.

The directions say to use it on wet hair and then style, but I used about 1/3 of my normal amount. I spread it around on my palms and smoothed it over my hair, trying to be as even as possible and then brushed to help spread it as well. The frizz I had already acquired was definitely less immediately and the product spread so well I couldn't tell it was in! I hope I spread it enough. Obviously this is a bit less than ideal, but you could definitely try this at home.

It made me wonder what those big blowout salons in NYC (like Blow) use to combat frizz? I'd HATE to pay a lot of money for a great blowout, just to have it ruined when I walked outside. I'm sure it'd be tacky to make them use my product, but I admit I'd be really tempted!

  3. Hi Christine!
Thanks so much for the shout out! I'm glad you are getting the same great results I am! I'm wildly impressed with this product and prefer the texture to a lot of other anti-frizz products I own, that feel like motor oil. Avon has created a winner. Next step is the shampoo and conditioner...let me know if you try it before I do.

  4. Hi Debbi!
I was going to leave a comment on your post today to let you know it was here, but you beat me to it!

I seriously love this product, Avon did a great job with it! I should try the shampoo/conditioner too, I think one of the nurses at work is an Avon rep, so I'll have to order it from her. I'll let you know how I like it!

  5. Oh one more thing! I have brought product to the Salon where I get my haircut (Good old fashioned Clairol Shimmer Lights...NOTHING tones down brassy highlights like this stuff)! No one was even vaguely offended. Next time, bring your Lotus Shield with you!

Keep me posted on the shampoo and conditioner please.

  6. I am so glad to read the testimonies as it relates to Avon's Advance Techniques "Frizz Control Lotus Shield".

  7. Is this an art fair that is actually multiple art fairs? Hail to the victors? If so, I'm pretty sure you and I live in the same city, very cool! I love your site, keep it up!

  8. LOL! You're right Jamie, we do!

  9. love the friends reference!
i will def be purchasing this so my hair survives my morning commute to work! thanks :)

  10. well if it works I had better give it a go!

  11. Christine, this sounds great! I've used so many anti-frizz products over the years and NOTHING worked for a long period of time.

Right now I'm using WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner. I like how it makes my hair feel but I haven't tried to see how it holds up in humidity. I've just been wearing my hair curly.

Since, I'm a woman of color I wonder will this Lotus Shield really work on my hair? I don't have kinky hair but it is very curly so I wonder if it will work when I decide to whip the flat iron out and straighten it :-)

By the way, I got a flat iron for $37 from Target that will blow all of those $200 flat irons out of the water......including the Chi!

It's by Remington, has a digital display and goes up to 430 degrees - which my hair can handle since its all natural. I use it no more than once a week and I'm pretty good.

P.S. I think we met at the last Total Beauty blog conference.

  12. Hi, great blog! Yeah I've tried this as well and it really works. Mentioned it on my blog as well.

  13. Wow, I definitely need to get this stuff then! My hair is a frizzy disaster.

  14. Hi! I've heard a lot about the Lotus Shield and am thinking of trying it, but I'm wondering if there are any silicones in it?

  15. I have tried everything out there no controls my hair.
