Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray

Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray, review
In this summer's Beauty Fix shipment I found a bottle of Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray. While I had never heard of it before it showed up in my house, it has suddenly popped up everywhere from Allure, the Today Show and even as a "free bonus with order" from many of my favorite internet stores.

This magical spray claims to make your makeup last twice as long by helping to use a "unique color pigment dispersion system" that will keep your makeup in place without melting, fading, clumping or smudging. The product is a fine mist with a slightly herbal scent that comes in a spray bottle. Simply spray over your face after applying your makeup and then "as needed" throughout the day. I'm not sure when that "needed" is, quite honestly.

I decided to test this product two different ways. First, I just used it as directed in the morning, with additional applications around lunch and dinner. Then I used it the next day in the same manner to only half of my face.

So, how did it do? I'm not sure that it helped keep my makeup last longer. I don't typically have issues with melting, clumping, etc. My foundation and blush do tend to fade throughout the day, typically disappearing by the time the sun is setting. I still saw this with the spray, there was no change. Would it have stayed longer if I had used the spray more often? I'm not sure really. It seems to me that using it three times a day should have been enough to see a difference in the staying power of my makeup.

What I did like this product for was as a "finishing spray". I find that after using my powder my face really does look powdery, despite buffing for a while with a kabuki brush. A few sprays of this product (which really does come out as a light mist, has a light scent and feels pretty refreshing) really tones that down and my skin looks like actual skin again.

The only issue is that this should not be the last step in your makeup routine. Leave mascara for after this step. No matter what mascara I use, this spray seems to increase the drying time of the mascara dramatically. Sneeze 10 minutes later and end up with mascara marks under your eyes.

  2. Thanks for the honest review, Christine! I've always wondered about finishing sprays, and whether or not they're worth the heavy price. Great post!

  3. Have you tried Model in a Bottle? I love this stuff! I have a problem with mascara leaving marks under my eyes (regardless of the mascara or concealer I use...I've tried lots). A light mist in the morning prevents mascara from melting under my eyes. The only drawback to Model in a Bottle is that it dissipates while traveling by plane. The product evaporates rapidly while in cargo and/or the cabin. They could improve the container.
