Clinique's Sun Protection, My Summer SecretThursday, August 20, 2009
Last summer I tested a rather large collection of sunscreens. I toted them around with me and kept copious notes about the feel and weight of the sunscreen.
This year is different. After finally finishing my medical training, I moved across the country and started a new job. There wasn't time to go outside, let alone try out 20 different types of sunscreen.
So, I did what any other beauty blogger would do. I used the products Clinique had randomly sent me at the beginning of the summer. I would look at other products on occasion in stores, but somehow the smell or feel of a different sunscreen just didn't feel right. This summer, I only wanted to use these products.
So, all summer long I've been using the Clinique Cream SPF 30 versions of their sun protection. Both the body and face are thick and white, but absorb easily into my skin and I don't know they're there. I can't feel them on me, they don't feel heavy and I can't really smell anything either. And they stay that way for hours. The SPF 45 Sun Protection Stick is a bit shiny, but I use it on days I'm spending a lot more time in direct sun, and then it's in target areas like my nose and the tops of my ears.
I may even somehow like the After Sun lotion even more, it is a light green lotion with aloe (you can smell the aloe) that soothes just as well as the green sticky aloe gel we all used to keep in the fridge.
So, the secret is out. That's why I didn't review sunscreens all summer.
