Lumene's Eye Makeup Remover: The Cheap Alternative to Lancome?

lumene eye makeup removerAs much as I love my Lancôme Eye Makeup Remover, I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the $26 a bottle price. I've had a few readers e-mail me suggesting that I should check out the Lumene Eye Makeup Remover at CVS. A dupe for about a quarter of the price? Would I check it out? So, I ran to CVS to buy the makeup remover (and the eye shadow primer as well, watch for a review soon).

It does indeed look just like the Lancôme remover. It's a clear fluid with an oil and a water components that you shake together before use. Soak a cotton pad, wipe on your lids and lashes. Should be easy.

Except that I didn't really think that this eye makeup remover really removed very well. A lot of scrubbing, usually more than 1 soaked pad (per eye) and I'm still waking up with remnants of mascara under my eyes each morning.

So, while it might cost about 75% less than the Lancôme, I think it's a not a great deal, just a product to avoid.

  1. I actually love Sephora Face brand waterproof eye makeup remover. I highly recommend that, and it's only $10 for the big bottle.

  2. Did you try the waterproof one? I found that worked a lot better. Not as great as Lancôme, but decent for the price.

  3. Darn, I was really hoping for a positive review of this because I am on the search for a perfect eye makeup remover that is a drug store brand. I have no qualms about spending $55 on a chanel eye quad but I just can't drop $25 on remover. I'd love to see if you have any recommendations for a good drug store brand.

  4. My go to makeup remover has always been the Neutrogena Oil Free eye makeup remover. It easily removes waterproof makeup for me. Have you tried it? I have also used the Lancome Bi-facil but U use the Neutrogena since it is so much more cheaper and works just as well.

  6. You should really try the Essence of Beauty Oil Free Makeup Remover also sold at CVS. I use it all the time, it takes off all my makeup with just a few swipes and doesn't burn my sensitive eyes.

  7. Thanks for the review. I hate wasting time and money on products that do not give the results I expect and at the end of the day who wants to scrub and scrub.

  8. I have to disagree with your review--at least for the "waterproof" version. It works like a dream for me.

  9. I think that Maybelline's eye makeup remover (in a little tacky-looking plastic bottle) is fantastic. It doesn't leave an oily film, it seems to emulsify eye makeup immediately and wipes off cleanly, and it's CHEAP. Try it and compare it to the Lancome (which I've never used, although I did use Clinique for awhile).
