A Better, Cheaper Mineral Makeup Alternative: L'Oreal's Bare Naturale

loreal, mineral makeup, mineral foundationEver since my first foray into mineral makeup I've been curious about other mineral makeup brands. The Pür makeup is a good match and does look good, but the finish also seems to just look like I have a lot of powder on, which is not exactly what I'm looking for in a foundation.

So, I thought that L'Oreal's Bare Naturale might be worth a shot. Plus, to be honest, it was already sitting in my newly created "Beauty Closet". I had picked it up during my visit to the L'Oreal Paris Store in LA with Total Beauty. I even had one of their makeup artists select the correct shade for me (they have testers there which is super helpful).

The package for this product is pretty nice. It's highly portable, since the top pops off revealing a mini Kabuki brush, making this great for travel or for carrying around for touchups. I found the brush to be nice, but it is a bit rougher than kabuki brushes that I already own. In addition, I do prefer to use a brush with a longer handle for blending, so I soon was using my own brush with this product.

I found the powder much easier to blend and look natural than the Pür Minerals product. The coverage is light but builds very easily to a medium coverage. I use much less concealer with this product (it does a better job of covering my imperfections), and I do use a translucent powder with it as well. It doesn't look "powdery" on my skin and it lasts all day.

I definitely like this foundation a lot. I do wish there was a different top to use so I didn't have to use the top with the brush for at home. Overall, definitely a product that I will get again!

  1. hi! i like your posts. my only problem with this loreal minerals is when you start using the brush it spreads out and gets caught when you try to place it back. i thought at first there is a hole at the base of the brush so you don't need to unscrew the brush.

do you mind if i place a link at my sites to yours?

    thanks!

  2. The brush is scratchy (I use my own separate one) - the packaging is rubbish (it is too small to swirl the brush in properly - I pour the powder out into a larger container) - but the actual powder is the best ever - of all the mineral powder foundations I've tried, I like this one the best - its just fabulous! - I have repurchased which is very unusual for me!!

  3. Now I'm going to try this - the MUA reviews werent' good (but I've noticed that they rarely are for anything other than MAC) but I'm tired of my old foundation and Loreal often works for my skin tone well. And I'm boycotting MAC because I'm tired of them and their constantly released special collections, all designed to get us to spend more $$ on makeup we don't really need.

  4. I use an inexpensive petrie dish to swirl my mineral makeup, and then cover it with the other side. They are very cheap online. Other people I know use margarine or whipped topping lids and then use the container to hold the leftover.

I also set my powder with Evian aerosol. it helps it look less powdery.
