Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator

If you've been to Target, Walmart or your corner drugstore lately you likely saw an end cap filled with Neutrogena machines. Likely you've stood there and thought "now, why are there two machines? And why is the blue one so much more expensive?" Then, if you bought one, you likely bought The Wave (that's the pink one, it's cheaper), brought it home and loved it. Like I love mine. A few minutes with that machine and it's magical soap filled pad and my skin is smooth and radiant like never before!

Well, if you didn't get the blue one (aka, "the expensive one") you were missing out!

The idea behind each of these machines is very much the same. A little hand held machine with a disposable pad that contains soap exfoliates for you.

First, the machines are different:
• The HSR machine has 2 different speeds, with the high speed being quite vigorous.
• The Wave has only 1 speed, which is very small movements at a high frequency, more like one of those ultrasonic toothbrushes
• The Wave is water-resistant while the HSR is not
• The Wave is quite a bit smaller

The pads are different in texture and the soap embedded within the pad. They are the same size so they fit on both machines:
• The Wave pads are finer, both sides are white with the same texture
• The HSR pads have 2 different sides, 1 side is fine and white though coarser than the Wave pad. The blue side is more coarse and especially when combined with the high level of the HSR machine
• The HSR soap contains small crystals (Alumina) that the Wave does not. These crystals are meant to help with the degree of exfoliation
• The Wave has the addition of Salicylic Acid, a beta hydroxy acid. Note that it's far down on the list, and since it is in a soap (and is therefore washed off), it doesn't stick around to do it's job. So don't buy the Wave pads for the Salicylic Acid – buy them for the texture if that's what you need for your skin type.
• Note that both are too large to fit around your nose very well. I get around this by taking the pad off when I'm done and exfoliating around my nose manually.

HSR Ingredients:
Glycerin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, PEG-8, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, Alumina, Lauryl Methyl Gluceth-10 Hydroxypropyl dimonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Citric Acid, Fragrance -Moonlight RP3418/1 - (Takasago)

Wave Ingredients:
Glycerin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, PEG 8, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, Lauryl Methyl Gluceth 10 Hydroxypropyl Dimonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Citric Acid, Salicylic Acid, Menthol, Fragrance

So, now that you know the differences, why should you get it? Since it has different speeds, the HSR is much more versatile than the Wave is. You can choose to use the high or low speed depending upon how much exfoliation you need that day. Especially if you have both pads, using different levels of texture with different machine speeds can really personalize the experience for you. But, if you want to use it in the shower you need the Wave. I for one am very glad that I have both machines and I hope that this post helps you pick which box you should buy. No matter which choice you make, I strongly recommend that you pick up both types of replacement pads.

Thanks for the review of the new tool. I bought the Wave after your first review and I love it. I am going to pick up some of the new pads to compare them for myself. I like how gentle the original Wave pads are, so I'll probably stick with them. But it's nice to know the new ones are the same size.

I have both and they work wonderfully. I'm 56 and am always being told I look much younger than my age. I just put on moisturizer after my exfoliating and I'm good to go. Don't wear makeup except lips and eyes and it feels great! Enjoy!
